Well I was looking at getting some PIAA's but after reading some reviews I was disappointed.

So it's up to you guy to help me out!

I just got a set of Silverstar Ultras. They seem pretty decent, but they weren't exactly cheap... something like $45-50 for the pair.

I think I'm still a bit spoiled cuz the bulbs that were in the car when I bought it were some 100W crazy-bright bulbs. I'm surprised I didn't melt the wiring harness! lol

I have the Ultras too, pretty decent for a halogen bulb. I'll probably get the matching fog bulbs next time I see them on sale.

I am still a big fan of the Phillips Blue Vision bulbs I run in my car. They are very bright, supposedly long-lasting, and won several awards. I think I paid about $45 for the pair, so not exactly cheap, but much brighter than my stock pieces were.

Xtec HID matched - $30 shipped. LIFETIME replacement warranty. I had a set on the 6. Check them out here (http://www.therpmstore.com/product_info.php?cPath=35&products_id=148)

I got them for Christmas, but I know they sell them at AutoZone and O'Reilly's. I've even seen regular (but not Ultras) Silverstars at Target.

I got mine at Autozone. They had a $10 mail-in rebate on the pair, but I was stupid and tore the box up when I was opening it and destroyed the UPC.

Umm.... 35w 4500k HID? That's how I roll, but it's probably cheaper in your case to stick with halogens.

dmention7
02-18-2008, 12:05 PM
Yeah, plunking down for HIDs without projectors would be a whole lotta fail. A projector retrofit would be a whole lotta win though.

The HID kit Jeff had on his speed were pretty awesome, did it come with projectors?

dmention7
02-18-2008, 12:38 PM
All 3's, speed and otherwise have projectors. The projectors on cars with factory HIDs are a bit different, though... but not a lot.

02-18-2008, 01:27 PM
Yeah, Jeff's lights were amazing. Even with the differences in the projectors, he had almost no flare, and it was a very focused beam for what it was. Not to mention bright as fuck. I think he was running 50w 6000k tho, so it made mine look like xmas lights in comparison. Also, i've had good luck with the silverstars myself, at least in my Talon. Haven't had halogens in a number of years, and that is the precise reason the Mini is getting an HID retrofit when I can find the right housings.

He had the speed3 sport and just threw a kit in it?

I forget what the kit was. It was a GB he got over on m3f on the cheap, and it worked like a charm. Looked really good. I was impressed with the overall improvement in lighting over stock. Hell it was brighter than mine.

I think he had Apexcone's which you can get in 55w or 35w at RPMstore.

I'm picking up these (http://www.therpmstore.com/product_info.php?cPath=122&products_id=38) this spring. Sweet price and lifetime warranty is only an additional $25.

Why not the 55 watts?

Picklz
02-19-2008, 10:40 AM
55's are more likely to catch attention from the po-po, but I think if you are carefull that they are aimed correctly you'd be fine. I've been kicking around the idea of going with a 55w 6k kit, 5k is better for light output but I figure the boost from the 55w will more than make up for that.

Do you remember where you got them? One of my Silverstars burned out last night (yes, after only 5 months) and I don't want to gamble with another pair. I think I may give the BlueVisions a try.

Yea, if you don't have projectors, stay away from anything higher then 4500k with the xenons. To many hondas running around with 8000k and 10000k wearing that look out IMO.

Colin, I shit you not, I had some cheapass Kmart whatevers in the Talon and they were the best headlights EVER. Aside from the HID's of course.

This seems the best way to go....

Yes, I had to order them online from a UK based company. I also received a set of free high intensity bulbs to replace the map lights. I never used them, but still a cool free gift.

Link: http://www.powerbulbs.com

Note: You may want to check the web again for a US based company. I was not able to find them anywhere in the sizing I needed. But, the bulbs have become more popular, so maybe they are out there. Also, its been almost 1.5years since I installed these and they still work perfectly.

I just placed an order for a pair of the BlueVisions. I found them at cyclegear.com (yes, a motorcycle store chain) for $17.99 each with $9 shipping. We'll see how they compare to the SilverStars. If they rock, I'll pick up a pair of fog bulbs too.

I am still using those bulbs and still really enjoy the improvement over stock. You wont get that HID look, but you will get some bright light.

HIR's from john deer are crazy awesome. I am pretty sure they fit the MS3 fog's and high beams whatever those 9xxx numbers are. So I'll have to go order those and post some pics as they work real well and last a long time, as they are made to be used in awesome tractors ;)

Got the BlueVisions and they're pretty good. In the very least, they're about the same brightness/color as the Silverstar Ultras, but they cost me about $10 less. Only problem is that Philips doesn't make the BlueVisions in the kind I need for my fogs.

Plus, they should last longer at least in my own experience.

OK, so now that I'm happy with the BlueVisions I need to swap out my fog bulbs so the color will match (stock fog bulbs are much more yellow than the BlueVisions). Anyone have any recommendations? I need 55W size H11 bulbs ('06 3 sedan). Doesn't look like they make BlueVisions or SilverStars in that size.

Do you have a P/N for the blue vision bulbs ordered from cyclegear.com? I'm needing some new bulbs as well and want these. Any help finding them for my 3 would be great!

Thanks!

Wow...looks like I must have bought their last pair. Cyclegear.com only lists the BlueVisions as "Only in Stores", and the site says they're out of stock.

I originally found them by just Googling "BlueVision H7" and checking out what came up in the Shopping tab. Looks like there are a bunch of other places that sell them.

So is H7 the size?

For the low beams, yes.
