What: 35th Annual MPLS/St Paul Auto Show (http://www.twincitiesautoshow.com/) - Cars, Cars, and more Cars

Time: 4PM til whenever

Meet up at the Mazda Booth at 4PM

Anyone is welcome to meet us down there.

Cool. We'll probably have to leave carpooling up to people in each area of the cities to work out among themselves. (i.e. I live north and I believe you guys live south)

My recommendation is to park in the MarTen ramp. The entrance is on Marquette avenue between 10th and 9th streets (one way North). Last year, it was $4.95 to park there. Skyway through Hilton, Orchestra Hall, to the Convention Center.

You'll pay through the nose for closer parking, like almost double or more.

the 9th would be better for me, plus for those that want to carpool from this end of the metro could meet at the MoA and go from there.

I was just at a gun show at the CC with my dad. Event parking was $8 at least for that event. I dont think it changes as the price was posted on a metal sign. That was the lot just off of 3rd on the east side of CC.

The ramp I was stating did not charge "event" pricing last year for the Auto Show, it was the regular $4.95 weekend rate.

The only discount tickets I am aware of aren't good on weekends. The one I have here on my desk says Monday - Friday only.

all event parking in the ramps is $9 no matter how far away you park.

So what are the highlights at this years auto-show? Seeing the Audi R8 and the pontiac G8 were pretty cool last year. And I forgot if who had the battle cruiser concept car (chrysler?) but that was pretty cool. Atrocious, but cool to see.

maybe you are thinking of the imperial? I know that last year they had the g8, r8, challenger. Can't remember what other highlights were there.

Camaro was there, the Imperial was there. Last year's show was fairly lackluster overall.

Concept cars hold little interest for me. Show what's coming up and let me touch and play with your current product all over, and I'm happy.

Or look for 3-4 of us getting arrested at the Smart booth for attempting to pick up a car and move it. Also, if Matt is going, you know Matt, and by proxy Matt knows us.

We'll be there starting around noon and will be there at least until 6:00.

Good times, good times.

I think what impressed me the most out of anything there was the sheer crappiness of the caliber's (and most of dodge and jeep's) interior. I had heard about it, but I honestly did not believe it could be that bad.

The custom car displays were..... interesting. Seemed like the common theme among every single one of them was "How ridiculously huge can we make the wheels?" I was impressed with very little in that regard.

There were a couple of ballin Jaguars. Its amazing just how many geeky buttons and knobs they cram into some of those 100k cars.


It's kind of funny just how unimpressive most cars are when they are sitting motionless in a showroom.

Fucking Subaru. They had their anteriors up their posteriors and didn't have the tickets available for their people on time. We arrived two hours after the auto show opened and the tickets STILL hadn't arrived at their will call. Instead of comping some tickets for us, they invited us to wait until they arrived. No thank you... my time is worth more than the $9.

Didn't even look at the GT-R... not really interested in it with it's extreme nanny state design and lack of a manual transmission.

Though it was not spite that awarded the Impreza 5-door the 2008 Aztek Award for the most outstandingly ugly new or significantly redesigned vehicle. The car is THAT ugly.

a cop disregarded the "stay off platform" sign
proceeded inside the cockpit

and started to unbutton his pants...

Yes that brown Porshe was nice. Sick color.

GTR and Challenger were awesome to see in person.

Oh, and Jay you forgot to mention the Caliber's cheap black plastic running along the roofline on the exterior of the car. Tupperware FTL!

Oh and now I know where to get my car customized. Where you ask?

all in all it was a decent show i thought. the GT-R, Camaro Convertible, and the Challenger were hot, but i wasn't expecting to see the Demon concept there, took me by surprise, and my g/f loved it too. Upstairs at the Saleen display i got into a conversation with one of the guys about the S281 they had and the movie Transformers since Barricade was a 2007 Saleen S281 Extreme edition. Going through the racers display the 'Pure Evil' vette was sweet, it was my second time seeing that car (first was at the CarCraft Nationals back in July). And i took a shot on the little 'Forza'-style race game they had set up with a Mini racer. Was in 4th til i got bumped and sent me into the grass, knocking me back to 11th place.

Might be going again later this week with a friend of mine that just got back from Iraq.
