Are you looking to drop it a bit in the future?

I like them. But I don't like them enough where I think they'd be worth $350/wheel--at that price they should make my jaw drop or at least be a pound lighter. I see where you're going, and I think you can pull off the white, but I'm not completely feeling that particular set.

they are nice looking but on the heavy side.
Is it just me or using Tire Rack and such just not the same anymore for gauging what a wheel will really look like?
Wheels wise, it's a safe one. It will probably look good all said and done, but may not "pop" like something else to you?

I know what you're saying, for this much money I should be able to go somewhere and have them put a wheel next to my car.
Too much money...
Was thinking Rotas but I seem to only be able to find 18 x 8, would much rather have 18 x 7 or 7.5.

I like them, but i'd still go with the wider Rota, and save yourself some $$$.

Rotas are good light wheels.. Why not go with them? I was looking at some bronze rotas myself.

18's that are 20lbs? That's pretty light. A bit on the spendy side though. I don't mind them but they don't have that wow factor that I'd want if I were gonna drop $1400 on wheels.

03-03-2008, 10:38 AM
Spose rotas aren't all that bad, now I'll just have to find someone to buy my relatively new bridgestone potenza re00whatevers that came oem...

Yum. Rota Torques yes? They're cheap enough that you could have them powdercoated wheite and still come out cheaper than a set of Gram Lites.

Nope those were work emotion cr kai something something or other.

^^ Thats a boring design, I think the standard 6-spoke gram lites have more appeal, but they are spendy.

Tom good call- these are the rota torques, compared with above they're nearly identical...

Edit: These look pretty sick too:

PS if stock is 53.5 mm and 7" wide, would something with 48 mm and 8" wide work?
mndsm

Rota P1? Tarmac maybe? Either way, simple and elegant is the way to go. Plus I really like the split spoke look.

I kind of threw this question in to a previous post but it wasn't very obvious:
if stock is 53.5 mm and 7" wide, would something with 48 mm and 8" wide work? Would (225 or even 235/40/18s be better then 215/45 for an 8" wide wheel?
mndsm
03-03-2008, 02:09 PM
I dinno, but i've seen several sites proclaiming that a 45mm offset on an 8" would work.

48+ will work with an 8"

215/45 will NOT work on 8" wide wheel. 7.5" is the biggest you can go.
However, 225/45 will work on an 8" wheel. But then you're getting into rubbing territory. 225/40 appears to be the safe bet if you want to go wider.
For offsets, +48 or +45 should work fine. My summers are stock tires on 18x7.5 with +45 offset.
Other rims...

I like these too. The idea of a red MS3 with black and a touch of red on the wheels would be killer.

Or they have a gunmetal version...

Srsly why did someone have to make a cool wheel and put their crappy name on it:

The wheels on my 6 were Speedy Lite 8 and they came with the name like that but it was a sticker I promptly removed. So I can vouch for Speedy as a solid wheel manufacturer and they were pretty lightweight. I also got them from wheelsnext who provided solid service.
You can always ask someone if it's a sticker. I'd recommend talking to someone on the phone for ordering anyway.

Cool. With a name like speedy wheels I'd be afraid to give out my cc info, lol. If there's no sticker the price is awesome...

Anyone have comments on gold/bronze on red action?
mndsm
03-06-2008, 12:15 PM
Gold would look SICK on a red car. Pop like a mofo. Just make sure you have a bright gold. A darker color would make it look like your wheels were dirty all the time with as bright as your car is.
dmention7
03-06-2008, 12:17 PM
yeah, you would need straight-up gold. but I think that could definitely look hot. Have fun keeping those suckers clean though... lol

Tom wants black so i'll be ok! I think these with some Cobb springs for a 1" drop and I'll be set.

03-06-2008, 12:46 PM
Those gold ultras would be some hot shit. I need a bit of a drop too. I'm thinking 0.5" and I'll be sitting right where I want to be.

03-06-2008, 12:47 PM
I think that's what I have to do. Everyone has black wheels or silver, I want gold. Boom, done.
dmention7
03-06-2008, 12:49 PM
too bad they don't make the torques in 18". a set of those in gold would set you back about half what those OZs will.
I agree it needs to be a bright gold. And it would look sweet!
mazdamn02
03-06-2008, 12:51 PM
One option would be to get torques and have them painted. But the cost savings would be minimal after paying for paint, and they wouldn't be OZs...
dmention7
03-06-2008, 12:52 PM
Well, they make the torques in gold. Just not in 18's.
Also, they wouldn't be OZs, but you could pay for your Cobb springs twice with the difference.
mazdamn02

Hmmm, na. 17s just aren't... what's the size?
dmention7
03-06-2008, 12:55 PM
I was just saying that the reason torques wouldn't work is because they don't make them in 18", not because they don't have them in gold. Because they do.... have them in gold, that is. Clear as mud?
How 'bout these? Speedy again.

Gold + polished lip = barf. Sorry.
mndsm
03-06-2008, 01:20 PM
Get a set of torques in 18's. they'd be like 700 shipped. then have them PC'ed gold. 35$ a wheel= another 140. You have a set of rims for 840, and another grand in your pocket to do what you need to do.

gunmetal or steel grey.... leaning towards gunmetal.
I think they also do the torques in hyper black? I'd probably rock that as well.
WhiteSpy9
03-10-2008, 08:55 AM
the steel grey look like the mazdaspeed3 forged wheels?
mndsm
03-10-2008, 09:34 AM
Jay- your car needs hyper black, especially after seeing the HB ultras on that Kia, I think that color would be amazing on your car.
dmention7
03-10-2008, 09:41 AM
I was just thinking that, tom. Do they make torques in hyper black? Or am I going to have to pony up for some ultras now?
Also, Andy, Rota's steel grey is closer to the color of my (former) racing harts, and I loved that color.

03-10-2008, 10:23 AM
They make Rotas in every color on the planet.

If you decide to go with Rotas, be sure to checkout the pricing from wheelguy on m3forums. Apparently from the comments over there, his prices are pretty good.
mazdamn02
04-15-2008, 09:23 AM
Ya I was working with wheelguy, and you can get a classy set of 4 for $750 shipped, quite a deal!
But..... I've decided to roll on stockers for another year and pay down debt instead! The world really must be coming to an end. I figure if I get 8" Rotas I'm going to have to sell my practically new stock MS3 215/45/18 rubber for a "loss" and then have to buy new rubber too... I'll ware these out and in the meantime get rid of my credit card debt. *WOHOO!*
