AJ

We are pleased to announce that we have scheduled our our next MN Mazda Dyno Day at MAP! $50 for 3 pulls is the price. 2WD Dyno.

The events will be held on Saturday May 17th. Projected start time is 11am.

We'll have more detils up in the following days, but clear your schedule, we've given everyone plenty of time!

Sorry for the AWD car this time around. There are two of us in the planning that are ok with sitting out and just enjoying the day. We wanted a dyno day and we wanted to step up our involvement and partnership with MAP.

You can sign up in this thread by simply posting the following:

-Your Full Real Name
-Car Year, Make, Model
-Breif mod list with tuning device

Mazdas will enjoy priority on the dyno, but all cars are welcome!

I know we can wrangle up more than 3 mazdas.

I want to, but I can't guarantee I can get the cash together. I definately want the Mini on the dyno though, I want it to pwn Jay's car. Put me down for the Mini for right now, and maybe the Speed gets added later.

03-10-2008, 12:04 PM
ORLY? I might just have to funnel some wheelz monies into mods to make sure that doesn't happen.

I am very interested. When I first read the thread I thought it was march 17 but May? Wow, long way off. I will probly show up for this one I have been wondering what my stock power is since it seems low for some reason.

mndsm
03-10-2008, 05:31 PM
Have you dynoe'd before? You're a Speed3 right? Dead stock on LSE's dyno, I only got 213 on my best run. I figure that to be about right.

Young Roids
03-10-2008, 06:05 PM
Ya, MS3 bone stock. Was that a mustang? 213 is what I have seen stock guys get on mustangs.

JustROLLIN
03-11-2008, 09:46 AM
LSE had a Dyno-Dynamics dyno. They tend to read lower than Mustang and DynoJets.

Young Roids
03-11-2008, 05:16 PM
Well I did some WOT runs today since it was about 50 out(supposedly the MS3s sweet spot temp) and it feels stronger in 2nd than 3rd. Now most ms3 owners say that third gear is where they really feel the power so I am wondering if something is up with mine.

mndsm
03-11-2008, 05:35 PM
I think that comes a lot from the feel. 2nd is a wicked gear for sure, because you get a lot more torque steer and wheelhop/spin. I know it feels like that to me, but 3rd is the murdering gear on local roads, and 4th on the highway.

Jesse MS3GT
03-11-2008, 05:40 PM
IIRC first sucks sinces its too short, same with second, thirds pretty fun but doesnt accelerate as hard. IIRC I had more whp than Jeff and Tom, but Jeff had more wtq. My numbers were 221/257 with an intake

mndsm
03-11-2008, 05:52 PM
You did have more than me. Jeff topped at 220whp on the Mazdaspeed intake and a race pipe. His torque numbers were slightly higher than yours as I remember as well.

Jesse MS3GT
03-11-2008, 06:22 PM
^ I believe he had 10 more wtq. Probably thanks to the race/mid pipe

It's been confirmed that there are Mazda employees on the various forums so maybe it's not the best idea to post your real name and mods list. I don't know if dynoing your car is against the warranty rules or not but I could see them saying something. They might not be on this forum yet but they have been on 24/7 for sure.

AJ
03-27-2008, 05:06 PM
The Service Manage at Brookdale is well aware my car hasd seen the dyno, it does NOT void a warranty. I think that thisis actually in the fine print in the contract.

Young Roids
03-27-2008, 05:10 PM
That's good to know. But still you might not want to post your real name next to your list of mods.

but yeah, if a dyno voided your warranty, then so would 95% of test drives lol

Jesse MS3GT
03-27-2008, 06:31 PM
^ You have GOT to be a conspiracy theorist. You are, admit it! lol

I agree with you though, but I doubt a dealer would void me because of an intake and the fact I replaced their shitty stock mount that was causing my drivetrain to flop around.

I've talked to MAP and if there are a couple cars that want to work out actualy tuning with them, they would be interested, vs opening it up to more non mazdas. Pricing and timing would have to be worked out with them, but I think 2, maybe 3 cars could get in on that action.

It'd be great to meet some folks AND to have some sympathetic ears to complain to about all the FUN I've been having with a bent rim, old + new tires, wheel offsets, bent plastic in my stupid wheelwells ($86 just to replace one piece of stuff that's thinner than tupperware!), and getting on the s**t list of a local Discount Tire.

Where's the dyno place located? I haven't looked through all the pages of this post, and I'm sure it's in here somewhere...

Is anyone else with a Mazda 3 going to be there? I've got my old rims that I'd like to sell (got a new one to replace the bent one) and I can show it to anybody that's interested. They're 17x7 aftermarket rims and are only 15.5 lbs each, so they'd be great for anybody that's auto X-ing or going to the track with their Mazda 3.

Or would that be outta line to bring one of those with me?

Ya'll will get to see the new rims + tires too (yes girls can get excited about wheels and tires! :) ).

I've got a friend with a 2002 Toyota Rav 4, this baby puts some massive power to the wheels let me tell you! I should convince him to do a couple pulls! HAHAHA! Its got a couple Avery and DU stickers on it...they should atleast add about 20whp each...right?

Less driveline loss. Figure an extra 5-10% loss with a transfer case. Engine still makes the same amt of power though.

I have a hiccup at 4-4.5k rpm. I didnt have that hiccup/hesitation last year on lse's dyno(same mod - intake). And the reflash obviously didnt fix the hesitation. I think I need to go in for my cdfp solenoid now, too.

Looks like I make a few more hp than your stock speed3 jay! I make less torque, though.

I can't take full credit for that one. Jay helped a ton with the painting, and with the fabricating of that awesome base. But thanks for the ups, i'm sure that we'll find a good use for that thing soon enough.

As an interesting aside, Jay and I went to the Mini meet right after that, and Jay's car got a lot of positive looks, as well as when we pulled out the trophy for everyone to see. It was most amusing.

I thought he had injectors also, but in any event it's not hard to make gobs of power w/ a supercharged V8.

Add headers, a cam, possibly a plate intercooler, smaller pully, and perhaps some race gas and your talking 500-600whp.

LOL! Is that my exhaust?!?!? Yeah, it has always looked like that. It looked like that when the car was completely stock...it didn't make a difference that I added the TBE and it now smokes. It is all carbon buildup because the ms3 runs so friggen rich. Hopefully we will see some good tuning possibilities out there to minimize the richness. And a dealer that will replace a shitty turbo under warranty.

My mods:

Ported Blower
Smaller upper supercharger pulley
Cat-Back Exhaust
60lb injectors
And just an unshrouded intake

My numbers were low too i had previously made 494 hp and 471 TQ. But i dropped to 475HP and 440TQ...but i was also super lean at MAP dyno....so im taking back to my tuner to figure it out.

All in all it cost about $1,500 to gain 100hp

Wich is why I am amazed that these tuners like Cobb can't make power with the MS3s. You would think they could just lean it out and get huge power.

I think its the dyno. Cuz Young Roids stock MS3 put down 247whp 255wtq, I had a worn rear mount and a CAI and put down 255whp/251wtq.

Unless all three of us somehow had the same "low number" problem

I believe someone was telling me that bone stock, on that dyno, people were getting 225whp and 255 wtq. My mods are not that extensive, and I'm still running stock boost, give or take 1 PSI. The car is not tuned, and I'm going to continue to run it as is until P&L can figure out the MS3 computer. Then its hop in the car, drive to Chicago, and get it tuned. Judging by Deegee's numbers with his protune (for an STi), I should be waaayyy higher. Besides...stock MS3s cant smoke like mine...
