Our first official meet/dyno day for the year is ready for entrants.

When: May 26th - 11am Until All Cars Have Made Their Pulls
Where: LSE Performance (http://www.lseperformance.com)
What: Dyno Test Vehicles, BBQ, and One Hell of a Good Time!
Who: Primarily Any/All Members of MNmazda.com - Others are welcome!
Why: So We Can See What Kind of Numbers Our Cars Lay Down and Meet/Hang With Other Members of the Site.

Yes, LSE Performance has been kind enough to host the 1st official MNmazda.com Dyno Day. The cost will be $60 for 3 pulls on their state of the art Dyno. LSE is setup to handle FWD, RWD, and AWD vehicles up to 1,000+ HP. So, all of us should have no issues laying down some accurate baseline pulls on their equipment. The MNmazda.com staff has also decided to do some grilling and we will be selling hot dogs and soda for those who are interested.

If you have interest in finding out what kinda power your car will lay down, please respond in this thread and we will gladly add you to the list.

Please feel free to join the site.

This is a great chance for all Mazda owners to get a little experiance on how dynos work as well for those who have never had a car on one. In the end, get a nice printout with your numbers and frame it up for yoru garage if you'd like. How knows, maybe I'll show up with a couple of frames to give away just for that cause.

I'm also going to award a trophy for the MN Mazda Top HP numbers. And generally if we get enough cars we usually get $10 back on 5 of the dyno fees from the guys at LSE to allow us to raffle off the paid dyno time back to the members.

Really? I think Mini's are sweet lil cars. Plus, BMW makes them, so I have no doubt its a quality product.

As for a 3/S jumping off the dyno, yeah you should be fine. Josh has one of the highest HP 3/S cars in the nation and their dyno is good to 1000+ hp. ;)

Yeah, I bet that mini will lay a solid 150-170 down. But, I have never seen a mini dyno, so who knows.

dmention7
04-20-2007, 11:07 AM
I doubt if it will "lay down" 170, since I believe it's rated at 170hp--same as the MSP. 150 is probably not unreasonable though.

I went bone stock last year to get a base dyno at DB... but they have a Dyno Dynamic so it's loaded and the readings were different from a Jet Dyno, but converted to Jet it wasnt so bad lol

looking forward to see what it'll do with an CAI and lighter flywheel.

Nah man, I dont know about the rest of the guys, but I am a car guy. I love to see all types laying down numbers. Plus, some diversity on the dyno will be a good thing.

But, you might wanna remind him to bring a spare engine so when the Ford coughs up that 302, which it will, he can just leave for the guys to swap in a new one. ;)

Well peoples, we are down to the last week before the event. Any requests for Kosher, Vegetarian, or Vegan meals were due last Firday so hopefully everyone made their requests already. If not, sorry, cant help ya now.

Again, feel free to invite anyone out who you think would enjoy the event. We are having a world-class BBQ master come in. (Matt D) He will be flipping burgers and grilling dogs to your request, or burnt to a crisp. Whichever he feels is easier. We also have some trophies and awards ready to hand out for those with big numbers and not so big numbers. ;) So come one, come all...

There will be no swapping parts or tuning. It's standard at club dyno day events for the cars to get on, make a few pulls, adjust small settings (boost and things easily and quickly adjustable, ie. in seconds) and then roll off. A car should generally be on and off within 20-30 min as long as strapping goes well.

For additional testing of parts, settings, or tuning you'll want to chat with the guys at LSE.

*note that is we are waiting for more cars to show up or have a low turnout this can all change based on how the guys are feeling up there and if they want to see various results but chance are slim this will happen*

I'm assuming we'll get the printout for HP,TQ, and AFR vs RPM.

Are boost level and throttle position also available?

JustROLLIN

Yes, you will get a printout. As for the other parameters, I think they can add them onto the print out, but dont quote me. The PO will definitely have HP and TQ though.

Anyone looking to possible frame their first Dyno Printout for their car, I HIGHLY suggest just hitting up a Walgreens. Grab one of their regular paper size frames (they are less than $5) and enjoy a nice, framed, printout of your best numbers.

We log:
AFR, torque (raw tractive effort), hp, engine rpm, wheel speed, boost pressure, intake air temperature at the probe.

We do not have a way of monitoring throttle position, but on a MS6 It won't exceed 4.2volts, I can tell you that much ;).

JustROLLIN
05-28-2007, 01:22 PM
Yeah, Chad also made some really good numbers considering the engine was just broken in, the car was only running 5psi, and was running pretty lean up top. With some time on the dyno and tuning, I have no doubt the car will easily lay 300-350 down.

mndsm
05-29-2007, 08:47 AM
That car was wild to watch. I could not believe that it threw down 245 without a blink on a rough tune. That car is going to be a monster when it's done and boosting 10psi.

RockLobster

Yep, if you ever need a rotary built for you, I highly recomend Pineapple racing. Rob builds outstanding motors.

To be honest I am probably not going to hook up the boost controller at all, at least not for the forseeable future. The car is making about all the power it will safely make on the injectors I have in it. And the power/torque curves are sex as it is, nice and smooooth. I only have the stock 550cc primaries and RCeng 750cc secondaries. Togeather, that is good for about 300 "crank" hp safely. I have no need to be able to claim a HP number or boast a boost level, I want reliable smooth power for the track. Further above 300HP my current turbo will be out of its efficiency range.

Also, anything above 300HP is going to start to become too much for my brakes and tires on the track and ill just start destorying parts, and burning the rubber off it with 225 tires. Or, ill never be able to keep the rear end from stepping out. Either way that could get really expensive, really fast. ;)

By the time they were able to make a full run with it on sat it they had it richened up so much that there was no way it was lean anywhere. But at first it was leaned out mid RPMs. Once the secondary injectors kicked in it settled out. Ive done some more tuning and got it pretty close to dialed in now. Another dyno visit and it should be ready to go spank some elises, evos, and STIs on the track. ;)

Wow, I just saw the white board numbers and my Ms3 outdid those numbers by a bit, although it was on a different dyno. Mine pulled 229hp/245tq on a Mustang dyno @ RS Motors. I do have a CAI.
Interesting.... I'm not trying to start controversy, just an observation.

Typically a Rustang dyno will read higher numbers than a Dyno Dynamics... The Dyno Dynamics are one of the lowest readings out there, but supposedly more accurate. On a side note, the shop could care less about what numbers people make. LSE is more based on tuning and having an accurate picture of how much power they are actually gaining through mods and tuning. LSE will be the first ones to say that if you want a big number to brag about, go elsewhere. LOL.

Word.
We own a dyno and sponser a track. Unfortunally we live in minnesota so using the track isn't as often as we'd like.
So the Dyno is used for tuning :). If we wanted something to help us sell parts, we'd purchase another brand of chassis dyno. We use it for accurate tuning and accurate comparisons, hince why we own a Dyno Dynamics. What I can troubleshoot in an enclosed environment is priceless.

I did a few dyno runs last year with almost the exact same setup at RS motors on thier mustang dyno. Nice dyno, but not up to par with LSEs setup.

Interesting side note, before my port and rebuild my FC put down 180 on the same boost turbo, exh, and puter.

Amazing what a fresh engine with a port job will do.

torque #'s were more accurate, but most likely still low. the hp #'s were VERY low, LSE's dyno is very accurate pull to pull, but the numbers are going to be below other dynos because it is set up more for accuracy in TUNING. Ashly's MSP hit 130hp and my stock MSP hit 145 on Elite's dyno for instance.

It was cool to have all the mostly stock Mazdaspeed cars there. Since all the 6s put down roughly 210 all wheel and the 3s put down 220 fwhp it gave me a nice 2 wheel and 4 wheel correction factor for thier dyno to get a rough estimate of my own flywheel horsepower.

note...the car's hp #'s are LOWER at LSE because the dyno is tured for accuracy PULL TO PULL for tuning. LSE uses a state of the art brand new Dyno Dynamics unit. You can figure the correction factor IF YOU REALLY WANT TO by looking at the following numbers...

here are the numbers of some stock cars that have dyno'd there vs other dynos numbers...
stock rx8 LSE 179hp vs 203 hp on mustang dyno
stock MSP LSE 130hp vs my stock MSP 145 hp on dynojet
stock 06 Viper LSE 405hp vs 455 hp on dynojet

Did you get my VM regarding the double charge issue?

Yep, got the VM, I have been out of town, I figured it would be no biggie, Ill call you soon to set up another tuning session.

Car drives nice, i did a little more tuning on my own and seem to have figured out why it richened up soo much mid-high, while taking some fuel out there. The new higher flow secondary injectors were dumping a bunch of fuel in, good news is it wasnt bottoming out the AFM. I watched the SAFC monitor the AFM signal, it never got over 80% and it was always varying.

I'll bring it back for the fine tuning.
