View Full Version : MNMazda Spring Car Festival of Awesome! CANCELLED

Cancelled due to lack of stuff to do after cars and coffee, and the fact that the weather is going to be crap. Sorry folks.

Ok, so it was recently determined that on the same day as the MNSC Spring Opener, was the monthly rich people Cars and Coffee Meet. It's been discussed, and we are officially making a day out of this. The plan is to meet somewhere close to the cars and coffee (as evidenced by the lower arrow on the map) drool, get our name out there, and make the jaunt up Shady Oak to get to Central Park in time to lay claim to some area for the MNSC Spring Opener. After that, we trek down to University Ave, lay claim to the Wendys parking lot, and have more good times.

Cars and Coffee info-
I am proud to announce a very exiting event for the Minnesota car community. The Minneapolis Cars and Coffee event will begin on Saturday April 5th and will continue the first Saturday of every month at the Caribou Coffee/Einstein Brothers Bagels parking lot off of Shady Oak Rd and Hwy 62 in Minnetonka. We'll meet from 9am to 11am.

Please mark your calendars with the following dates:

April 5th
May 3rd
June 7th
July 5th
August 2nd
September 6th
October 4th

I met with management of both establishments and they are very exited to have us there and will do anything they need to accommodate us. I organized the same type of event in Scottsdale AZ and had a wonderful turnout month after month.
There is a great sports/exotic car community here in the Twin Cities and it’s about time we followed suit and started our own Cars & Coffee event. These events are held in many parts of the country and are a great way for car enthusiasts to hang out for a couple of hours. Please forward this on to all of your sports/exotic car friends and encourage them to come on out. We’ll have some photographers out there and we’ll post up some shots on the different forums.
Hope to see you all there.
Thanks,
Luis

(Thanks Josh)

MNSC Info-

So, the people over at MNSC appear to be having some sort of managerial shakeup, the Spring Opener has officially been TBD'd. We have no meet to make after Cars and Coffee. Anyone have any bright ideas?

Second change of plans, we now have a venue. We are going to meet at AJ and Jana's after Cars and coffee for some install and grilling fun. I have directions, i'll leave it to those two to PM them to whoever, otherwise, you'll all have to follow me there.
Here is a map-

[http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=45067643222552403,44.854698,-93.429233&saddr=8201+Flying+Cloud+Dr,+Eden+Prairie,+MN+55344 +(JCPenney+Co+Inc:+Eden+Prairie+Center)&daddr=10999+red+circle+drive+edina+mn+55343+to:Cen tral+park,+hopkins+mn&mra=ps&mrcr=0&jsv=107&sll=44.912577,-93.381143&sspn=0.133968,0.276031&ie=UTF8&z=12

The plan is to meet at JC Penney's in the EP mall at the bottom arrow on the map at 9am. We will be departing from Penney's at 9:30 SHARP, so be on time. We will roll out to the 2nd arrow, which is the spot for cars and coffee. Nom a bagel, suck down a latte, get crumbs all over Ferraris and stuff. After that, we trek out to Central Park in Hopkins for the MNSC spring opener. That lasts until 4pm. Maybe we get a little grub, and after that it's on to University ave to dominate the Wendys!

Is the 6 considered too large to be a "compact"?

Not really, bring it along!

The 6 is definitely considered a Sport Compact.

And I am so in for this.

They sure picked a tiny park for the MNSC opener. Doesn't look like there's room for more than a few dozen cars in the north and south lots put together

To bad this is all happening on May 3rd. I'll be at Valley Fair for the autox and right after that I have to drive back to school to continue studying for finals.

I just noticed 2 RX8s in the Coffee and Cars pictures along with the STI. We should have no issues rolling there. But we should definitely do it caravan-style.

We could still do the caravan to cars and coffee. It's just not a whole day affair now... or it could be. We could go grill someplace after coffee.

The map shows a couple parks right near the locations of the coffee thing, so there we go.

mndsm
04-21-2008, 10:33 AM
We could. Or anything really, as we'll have all day to do it. I still think we should hit University that night as well.

Slim
04-21-2008, 12:11 PM
Boooo on MNSC. Totally messes up the Awesomeness. We'll have to think of alternatives. Hey we could have a group "Help Tim install his boost gauge in the vent" day then roll to Uni that night.

mndsm
04-21-2008, 12:19 PM
We could. We just need an area to do it.

mazdamn02
04-21-2008, 12:20 PM
I am tied up until 9:30 am on the 3rd. Afterwards I'm down for whateva. I just need to know if I should bring the uber grill.

mndsm
04-21-2008, 12:23 PM
At this point, that may be likely. Sounds like we're doing a late swap to a grill/install meet.

Big Nate
04-21-2008, 01:09 PM
I got fucked into working that weekend. But I will be out after I am done (around 3:30pm or so). So i am still game for Uni at least.

ZoomZoom Diva
04-21-2008, 01:11 PM
I definitely have a couple things I could use help with installing... depending on the mood and where how we go about it...

AJ
04-21-2008, 01:57 PM
I could talk to the wife about hosting the daytime grill & chill if that's what people wanted. Nothing for sure till I chat with her though. I don't know exactly what's going on that weekend.

mazdamn02
04-21-2008, 02:34 PM

Townhomes really aren't the best for mod meets, particularly since one car cannot exit the garage.

mndsm
04-21-2008, 05:52 PM
Yeah, I actually don't think Ivans idea is all that bad. His place is close-ish to cars and coffee. The only question I have is if people want to do install stuff, we need a garage, and i'm sorry Ivan, but your garage is entirely too 'hood for that.

Slim

If you want to do something at your house that's fine. But the people who are interested/going to the May 31st date may not be able to make it on May 3rd if you move it. Just a thought.

Oh and I don't know what James needs to install, but my boost gauge could be done in a parking lot with the proper tools. It's not going to require anything major. I don't think.

ij1889
04-21-2008, 06:03 PM

Take your pick: brakes (pads and rotors), spark plugs, HID's and foglights (requires bumper removal).

Sorry to ruin the plan of hitting up the MNSC meet on the 3rd. :(

There is also the first autocross of the year that weekend (two-day event at Valley Fair) and the MitsuStyle.com dyno day at DB Performance so it was an easy decision for us to reschedule the meet. The park we had chosen wasn't exactly what we wanted so now we have time to get a bigger and better location. Right now the tentative date is May 31st. I'll be glad to post up here with any updates for you all.

Big Nate
04-22-2008, 06:51 AM
Thanx Matt. PLease feel free to post that date when it is set.

AJ and I are will to host an afternoon event at our house after the Coffee & Cars stop. People can do installs (just bring your own tools I believe, as we don't have much out right now).

What time are people planning to head down to Uni?

mndsm
04-22-2008, 08:52 AM
I figured between 7 and 8pm for Uni, give us time to get down there early and stake our claim to Wendys.

Big Nate
04-22-2008, 09:34 AM
I may even be there a bit sooner then that Tom. I will be there by 5-5:30pm i like to see all the other cars and what not. and some of those oldsters go home early.

mndsm
04-22-2008, 09:51 AM
Well, if that's the case, maybe we just roll out there immediately after install meet, say 5-ish?

Slim
04-22-2008, 12:53 PM
I'm cool with 5-ish and if people are cool with heading to AJ and Jana's I'm cool with that too. BTW, thanks for offering to host.

Anyone going to be there that's installed a boost gauge on an MS3?

mndsm
04-22-2008, 01:33 PM
Possibly? If MrMatt shows, I know he's done it. Otherwise the best we got is Jeff, since he did Joshs. Problem is Jeff has been all ninja lately.

Then, maybe schedule a revised Festival of Awesomeness for the day MNSC is rescheduled and roll to Uni after on that day.

If any of you are looking for something to do during the day head down to Valley Fair and watch the autocross. First car is off at 10am, will probably last till 4pm. If anyone is around at the end and they do buck runs I'll gladly give you a ride. Bring a helmet if you want just in case.

Slim
05-01-2008, 02:25 PM
So, are we canceling the whole thing?

Looks like chance of rain/snow Sat before 1pm.

We should make a revised Festival of Awesomeness thread when we find out the MNSC date or something.

mndsm
05-01-2008, 02:30 PM
I think we should just cancel the thing. It's going to rain and suck, means Uni is going to be washed out. Makes no sense to me to drive to Minnetonka for one hour of entertainment. Anyone want to tell me different?

mndsm
05-01-2008, 02:31 PM
Also, a revised MNSC date I got from Matt D. is reported to be may 31st.

Slim
05-01-2008, 04:05 PM
They should make it June 7th. Then we could line up with Coffee n Cars again for a full Festival of Awesome.

But yeah, I'd close the thread and put canceled in the title.

mndsm
05-01-2008, 04:07 PM
Eh, I put cancelled in the title, and i'll unsticky it, but i'll leave it open for whoever wants to use it.

Matt D.
05-03-2008, 11:00 PM
The autocross was pretty terrible even from a participant standpoint. It was cold and extremely windy. Got a little warm in the late afternoon and there were quite a few people spectating, but I don't blame any of you for not showing up. It's on again on Sunday if anyone wants to stop out and watch. Hopefully they give buck runs at the end which should be around 5:00pm, so if you're around and they do I'll gladly let someone ride with. Bring a helmet if you have one just in case so you don't have to use a nasty loaner.
