COSTS VARY AMONG SIMILAR MODELS

A little sports car can cost less to own than a family sedan. The Mazda Miata and Mazda6 V6 sell for about the same price. But at the end of five years, we estimate the Miata owner will be about $6,000 ahead.

The entire article is faulty in my opinion. If nothing else, they seem to overstate depreciation.

I like Nate's spelling of skewed. I think I'm going to use it from now on.

Anyways, James is right. The quote Dan put up says it all "we estimate" costs. No one can know that. Too many variables. For one thing a Miata owner is more likely to be a car enthusiast and as such more likely to take better car of their car than one of the everyday Joes who go purchase a Mazda6 sedan and barely bother to get oil changes.

My quote was to point out the comparison between "Similar models"... last I checked, a full size sedan is far from a roadster/sports car.

Easy Dan. I was agreeing with you and using the quote you posted to further point out the FAIL of the article. Not everyone is looking to e-fight.

idk know about that one, i have seen a bunch of chicks driving miatas, and they look like the preppy type so i dont think they give a shit about maintenance, for me this article fails, because some owners beat the shit out of there cars, pushing it to the limits everysingle time over reving(would not happen to a rotary), not change oil, etc etc...

P.S. You didnt hear anything bad about rotary. ROTARY FTW

The Mazda6 is NOT a full-size sedan.

I wasn't attacking you. I was just clarifing because it didn't seem like you caught the idea behind the quote.

You can get a decent depreciation amount based on sale price, market demand, and production numbers for past and future years plans. THis gives "some" insight to the values, but I agree, that it would be nice if they would of taken some actual averages from previous years, 5-8 years old.

"Costs vary among similar models" >> Hmmm... quite true. But yeah, I agree with ZoomZoomdiva. Mazda 6 is not a full-size sedan!

hmph!
