View Full Version : Detail Day Updated

04-10-2007, 12:09 PM
Lets set up the day as Saturday May 5th (cancelled). And May 6th is the only day.
Ok this is going well but I think I mite just have to do it again later in the year. So if you have a time that works post it up.
Just to let everyone know please bring your own stuff so i can help with what YOU use bring you polish, wax, clay, and wash tools as well.
If I can start with the first car at 10:00 am the by 6 or 7 everyone will have had a chance to see what can be done with there car.
As the day gets closer I will watch the weather and post up a day change if need be.
What you can expect to get from the day. A good understanding of how to clean and protect your ride. I will be using what ever products you bring (as long as they are worth using) so you can see what to do on your car and how to use the products that YOU have already. If you don’t have any products to use no worry, I will have all of my stuff out and ready to use for all who want it. I will also show you how to use a orbital polisher and a power waxier (Properly).
It will be at my house in Blaine and I have two garage spots so we will work in shifts to clean and detail the cars. I will also have some pop and other stuff to snack on but feel free to bring you own “stuff” to drink and eat.
And if nothing else it will be a fun day to sit and bs about cars.

Count me in!
It can be kind of a catch-22 when you don't know what you're doing. You want to try something to protect your paint/make it look nicer, but you're worried that you're going to fuck it up if you do it wrong. So it never gets done.

That is what this day will do is give you the knowladge it takes to make your car shine like the cops flashlight in your face.

If you bring your stuff i will look at what you got and see what i can do.
I am going to assume that you want to get rid of the orange peal. If that is not your intention then I can for sure polish out almost any scratch or swirl mark you may have. But my experience is limited when it comes to wet sanding an entire car. I have done a lot if spot wet sanding to get rid of deep scratches but that is it. If you can make it to a Porkys meet then we can talk about your ideas for the clear coat.

Well detail day is almost here. I would like to get a list going of who will be there and who will not. The weather looks like it may be ok and at least if its cloudy we can do a lot of this stuff outside. But none the less this day will happen and I will help all who want the help.
Also can everyone make sure to bring there products. Please keep your micro fiber stuff at home (unless you want to know if it will work or not then bring and we can leave it in you car) the reason I say this is don’t want to have all the mix up with towels. Also if you have a pc bring it or applicator pads bring them. I may be grilling if everyone can pitch in. Also it is a BYOB type event and there will be Dew and Coke to drink for those who want it.
So please post now and I will put your name on the list. I want some people to be there by 10:00 am to give time for everyone to get in. So also post what time you can be there.
May 5th

May 6th everyone this is the only day sorry. but with only three cars comeing that is ok

Also, I'd be willing to donate a bag of 18 hamburgers, buns and cheeses, interested? I have plow experience, I mean grill experience!
I can get there at 10, just pm your address whenever you get time. Thanks!
I won't be getting anything detailed but I'll be there at some point to hang out. We need some bikini girls to show up and play with some soap and water!

I'm down for whichever day, I was thinking of going to the auto-x event at Valley Fair Sunday but I think I may skip that. I can bring some food and 'beverages' with as well.
I am not going to have a porter cable by then, so I think I may just clay the car and put on a coat of wax to help protect it till I have a chance to do a full detail. But I'll let others do their thing first.

Hey Nate. I just looked up Klasse Sealant Glaze on autogeek. It turns out I used WAY too much. If you use as much as we were putting on it'll get super hard and splotchy and almost impossible to get off. A small 2oz spray bottle is all you should need for a whole car. The good part is, the sealant glaze is supposed to be really good at removing itself. So I think I'll go buy a small spray bottle tomorrow and redo the whole car with the sealant glaze (repeated applications are supposed to make the paint shine more and more anyway). I'll let you know how it turns out.

So nate, I redid the Klasse Sealant glaze tonight. I washed my car, and then just put a coat of the SG on top of the stuff that was already on there (all splotchy like). I poured the SG into a small spray bottle and just squirted a little bit onto the car and then used that for a whole section/panel. The key is to use very little! You should hardly be able to see it unless you're looking it the right angle, then you'll see a slight haze like normal wax. Once you're done with that panel/section, you take your cloth and rub it off right away, no need to wait. Spray some quick detail on the cloth to make it buff off a bit easier. After that, it looks great, and it took the old splotchy parts off. It just left a very nice shine. It still is a bit harder to buff off than the meguiar's liquid wax I used to use, but this stuff will last a lot longer because of it. So it raised from a D to a B product, as long as it lasts at least 6 months.

LOL I can see you with the e-brake pulled doing FWD donuts on the dirt road in the 3...hahahahaha...
So that Klasse is a bit more of a longer lasting product eh? I might consider giving that a try at the end of the summer when I need something that'll last the winter, during the summer I don't mind waxing it a couple times a month.

Just so everyone knows, once the detail day part II gets setup, I have a TON of free goodies to giveaway. McGuire's has provided the website with literally BOXES full of free stuff. So, once we get a date set, I will bring the goodies out, shoot some pics, and thank McGuires for the kindness.
Fuck'n right! They rock as far as giving away product. We even gave some away at our Dyno Day for the Mitsu guys this spring.
Oh, on a side note, we still haven't hand washed our car or waxed it since we've owned it. 11k miles.
