E-licious and I both need our fenders rolled. In order to offset the cost, we were going to share a rental, but I figured I might as well open this up to anyone else who'd be interested.

I haven't picked out a rental place for sure yet, but it looks like there are a few places that can get us the roller and a heat gun for 3 days for about $50 + return shipping costs.

Once we get a list of everyone interested, I'll work out a time/place for this all to go down. I know that I personally need this done yesterday, so I'm not looking to spend a lot of time getting this organized. If you're in, let me know so we can get the details worked out ASAP.

List:
1)dmention7
2)E-licious
3)Young Roids (out)
4)AJ

UPDATES:

Final price is $80.50 with 2-way shipping included. That price will be equally divided among anyone who wants to do their car

MAP has given us the okay to do some cars in their lot on dyno day (5/17). Otherwise, I will have the roller on sunday as well (as well as friday night), so there should be plenty of time to get anyone done who's interested.

It's on the way :D http://www.fedex.com/Tracking?language=english&cntry_code=us&tracknumbers=541944210007751

I don't need to roll my fenders but if it's scheduled on a date/time that I'm free I'll come watch, drink beer, and shout insults while you try not to crack your paint :D lol!

Okay, I'm going to go ahead and reserve a roller from www.rollyourfender.com for next weekend. It should get here on friday and we'd have it for the 5/18 and 5/18.

Total cost is $50 + shipping. I'm waiting on the exact shipping costs, but anyone who is interested is welcome to get in. Actual costs will be divided evenly among anyone who wants to get in.

Why I rolled my fenders on a 93 degree day in Dallas and still used a heat gun!

JustROLLIN

You guys should plan this for Sunday. Saturday the 17th is the dyno day and the more that show up for that, the better.

dmention7

Oh, I'm going to be at dyno day for sure. But I figure we'll have time that afternoon, or yeah, sunday for sure.

OK, cool. Well then I am down to come and drink beer while people crack paint as well.

Dude, bring the roller to the dyno day!!!!

We can do it right in the parking lot, i'll bring jackstands!

AJ
05-09-2008, 12:50 PM
Just hit MAP up to make sure it's ok, we'll block a spot off.

mndsm
05-09-2008, 12:55 PM
SRSLY? Cause that would rule.

dmention7
05-09-2008, 01:17 PM
That idea is full of win, AJ! I'm PM-ing them now!

Update: I have the okay from MAP to rock the fender roller in their lot during dyno day. I will also have the tool on sunday in case we run out of time or anyone who wants to cannot make it.

dmention7
05-09-2008, 02:34 PM
Update #2: Rental with shipping both ways is $82.50

So if it's just Eddy and I, it's $41.25 each... if Jay is still in, $27.50 each, and so on.

Come on guys, I know more people need their fenders rolled. Join the fun and lower the price!

Young Roids

Hate to do this but I gotta cancel out on this one. I think the paint on my car is very brittle so I am too scared to roll the fenders.

AJ
05-11-2008, 11:12 PM
What car do you have? We found out this weekend, I need it done with any weight in the back seat. That was rough.

Young Roids
05-12-2008, 01:26 AM
MS3. I was using the polisher on it the other day and a small chip of paint chiped off on the bumper from just the polisher. That kind of pissed me off about the paint so I don't want to take any chances with it.

AJ
05-12-2008, 10:01 AM
Take that shit back to the deal, that should be covered under war as well.

Good idea. What would they do about it? repaint the bumper?

JustROLLIN
05-12-2008, 03:24 PM
I prolly would not tell them you were using a polisher though. They will likely blame you for the chip whether you are competent with one or not.

ZoomZoom Diva

How many miles and how long have you had the car? I wouldn't think they would cover a paint chip (except perhaps for obvious peeling), particularly if the car is outside of the 12/12 intial window.

I suppose not. But a spinning foam pad should not cause a chip of paint to come off regardless.

I have had the car since mid december and it only has like 3,000 miles.

Just to clarify it is a very small chip on the rear bumper but it goes clean down to the black plastic. I might come down to the dyno day and show you it in person. I am a little tight for cash this month and I am still contemplating weather to actually get it dynoed or not.

AJ
05-12-2008, 04:45 PM
There is no time for contemplating, only to dyno. :D

dmention7
05-13-2008, 08:46 AM
Okay, got the shipping confirmation and final price.... $80.50

That's $26.83 each if Jay is out.

If anyone else wants to get in on this, the per person price will drop accordingly. Priority will obviously be given to those on the list, but I can make arrangements for anyone to do their fenders during the full 5 days I have the kit.

I just need to talk someone into doing mine for me (Nate? ;)) as I want it done, just don't really trust myself to do it. Has anyone done it before?

Big Nate
05-13-2008, 09:36 AM
I have done it. My fenders turned out great.

Picklz
05-13-2008, 09:51 AM
I drank beer and watched Nate roll his, it didn't look too bad, key is to take your time and roll a little at a time it seemed.

dmention7
05-13-2008, 09:52 AM
yup, we're just gonna take it slow and make liberal use of the heat gun. I watched a couple vids online, and it really does look easy.

AJ, I rolled my own fenders! It's not perfect, but it's really very easy.

Matt and Jay have the two key points as I know them, take it slowly a little at a time, and use the heat gun liberally. Hot sunny day is nice too...

Young Roids
05-13-2008, 06:11 PM
Does this liberal use of the heat gun risk paint damage though?

ZoomZoom Diva
05-13-2008, 06:24 PM
Actually, it prevents it. It's not hot enough to damage the paint, just to help make it a little more pliable.

dmention7
05-13-2008, 06:40 PM

You keep the paint hot to the touch, but not so hot that it burns you. The kind of heat you end up applying is less than what it would see sitting in the sun on a hot day for an hour or so, so unless you absolutely cook the paint, it's not an issue. You just want it warm and pliable like James said.

No, heatgun will make your paint soft and less brittle.

Young Roids
05-13-2008, 07:04 PM
Hmmm. Might have to get mine rolled after all. Still thinking about it.

At least show up and watch the rest of us go to see if that doesn't ease your worries

We'll even be sober (mostly) so that should make it easier!

05-14-2008, 01:15 PM
Hmm, doesn't sound to bad of a deal. I've seen the threads on this but haven't read or learned much about it. It's to prevent rubbing with wider tires, correct? I guess I'll be down there at MAP to see exactly what you guys do. Mind bringing the roller to my place afterwards?

dmention7
05-14-2008, 01:41 PM
Yeah, that shouldn't be a problem.

Z-licious
05-16-2008, 02:00 PM
Did anyone get a heatgun? Who's bringing the jack and jackstands? I'll bring a torque wrench.

Young Roids
05-16-2008, 03:53 PM
Why a torque wrench?

dmention7
05-16-2008, 04:21 PM
To torque the wheels back down.

I've got a jack and a pair of stands. I think tom is going to bring a second pair so we can prep one car while working on another. I'll bring a few 2x4 scraps to use for jacking also. I get paranoid about scraping off the undercoating and stuff... lol

Also, the heatgun came with the roller, which arrives this morning!!! woot!

dmention7

Just a reminder, I've got the roller and heat gun through monday. If anyone else wants to get in, it's not too late! Only $20
