I havn't been around Minnesota in a while so I am wondering where the best deal to bargain an MS3.
I will most likely go through my old dealership, unless a better deal pops up or they offer to doa dealer trade.
Any Suggestions?

A lot of members have gotten them from Walser, I got a really good deal at Morries (Mostly because they wanted my trade in in a BAD way) as did Workdawg, who got his from there.

if you are trading a car in: Walser in Burnsville. If you are buying outright do Luther in Brooklyn park.

I think if you took a poll of everyone here, the results would come back as either Morries or Walser. But if you want the best deal possible, I'd talk to both (as well as the others) and let them fight for your business.

When I bought mine the best deal I could get (Trade + Car) was at Morries, Walser was over $2500 higher on the overall deal, and I had purchased my last vehicle from them. But it pays to shop around. Dan got a pretty crazy deal at Morries, you might talk to his Salesman (Jesse).

Yeah. I might be a bit biased, but I'd so Morrie's for sure. They'll match any price you get from the other dealers. Go in and talk to Jesse he took great care of me, I'm sure he'll help you out as well.
I'd recommend going in to talk to Jesse for a bit, tell him you're going to get prices from other dealers, then bring that price back to him, in writing if you can get it.
When I bought mine 3 weeks ago, Walser was offering $2000 off MSRP for speed3s. Morrie's matched that and I had a coupon from them as well as a coupon from Mazda to sweeten the deal. Jesse's recommendation to me was to talk to Luther. I guess they'll do just about anything to beat Morries, play off of that.
Tell them you want to buy a speed3 and that the price is the deciding factor and that Morrie's offered you $xxxxx and ask them to beat it. I told them guy I worked with there I had to go, but left my email address for him to send me the offer. He did, so I forwarded it to Jesse at Morrie's and they said they'd match it no problem.
You might be confused about why I said Morrie's matched Walser, not Luther. Well, Luther's offer was $1500 off MSRP. I told Jesse at the time that I would be happy to buy from them for that price. About a week before I closed the deal, Jesse called me up and told me that Walser was offering $2000 off, so that's what I paid. He didn't have to do that, but he saved me $500 for no reason other than because he's a good guy.

It also matters how much all this legwork is worth to you. Walser offers a really good price with no work whatsoever. The others will take a good amount more time and trouble to get.
Personally I don't like all that "give us their prices and we'll match" bullshit. It's asinine game playing. Game Over. Give me your best price now, or I'll walk and I won't come back.

Exactly my feeling, but its hard to change an industry thats been working that way ever since cars were invented...

You don't necessarily need to play games... playing hardball with one dealer could easily get you a great deal. But to get the great deal you'll need to do research. If I didn't know that Jesse actually cared about getting me a good deal, I'd have gone about things differently.
I would have called up Walser and gotten their "one low price" quote and taken it to Luther probably. They are a smaller dealership, and they actually have their sales board visible to customers. Look that thing over, then ask for the guy with the least number of sales, he's likely to be more desperate for a sale. Tell that guy what Walser's price is, then tell them you'll buy from there for xxx dollars less, no bullshit. "Walser's offering $2000 off MSRP, you give me $2500 off on THIS car (a specific car with the options you want) and I'll sign on the paper right now." If he try's anything, we can do $2250 off, or offers to match the price. Tell him no, and start walking out to the car. Tell him to call you if he changes his mind, but not to fuck around, $2500 or nothing. If there's any way he can make that deal work, he will.

Dan, to me that is playing games.

Ya that kind of is the definition of playing games.
Workdawg
05-07-2008, 10:29 AM
Your definition sounded like more work for less profit though. Just going from dealer to dealer to have them match prices.
That's fine, IMO it's well worth it to play games to save $500.

That's why I started out with saying it's a matter of how much value it has to you. For me, a simpler and easier process is worth a small amount of extra money in the overall scope of things.
It also has nothing to do with matching prices. It's collecting bids, you don't tell them what the other bids are, and you expect the best possible bid they can make up front immediately. Personally, I would just go to Walser and buy the car, as their prices are aggressive and good enough for me.

I don't know, less than 30 minutes at walser and about an hour and a half at Morries (between two visits) saved me over $2500, that seems worth it to me. But to each their own.

For sure its worth 2.5 hours of time, you just have to be ready to walk out. It is a game, and its damn near impossible not to play it.

I can see it being worth it IF you can save $2500. I went through the whole rigamarole last time, and saved maybe $100. I felt dirty and slimy, it definitely wasn't worth it, and why I have no interest in going through it again.

Well good thing is.. Is that i worked for Morries. I'm in pretty good with the Morrie's Minnetonka row of dealerships. Which is great because i'd hate to try and work a lower deal with a different dealership. Plus Morrie's is forgiving when it comes to Mod's.

Why not tell the dealers what the others offered? That's exactly what I suggest. And as Josh said, be ready to walk out. Confidence is the key. You tell them what you want and you don't take any shit. If you walk as soon as you smell any funny business they won't try it again.

I love playing the games. After being in sales for 4-5 years, its like going back to my old job. But I agree, its just not for some people. My family just has me negotiate their car prices for them.

I'm telling you, I worked for Luther a few years ago, they sold dirt cheap. Go in, ask for the invoice sheet, ask how much the "holdback" is on it, get the absolute minimum price from them, then ask them for 500-1000 more off and tell them you'll buy the car. They will give you the rock bottom price. Go to Luther.
I prefer to just walk in with a briefcase full of cash and say I'll buy THAT car RIGHT NOW for $xx,xxx. But that's how I roll.
LOL...Sorry I felt the tension needed to be broken.

Hold back on Mazdas is 2% of MSRP with no options. On a MS3 gt, thats 481.

So selling at invoice is a fair deal, particularly for a car in short supply.

The dealer lots I've seen aren't overstocked with MS3's...
Their prices will vary based on their desire/need to sell the car. If they think a higher price will work and go through for the next person, they won't move as much.
On a side note, there is a MS3 for around 18k I think at brookdale. It's a red one, with decals and gauges and shit already. It's fuck'n hideous with the stickers and shit, and there is no full warranty on it, but it's probably the cheapest MS3 in town. And probably for a reason.

Luther was trying to sell me an MS3 for crack prices. So i looked around on Walsers online inventory and got their last 07 test drive car ms3 for under 20k. I didn't have to play any games I just walked in with the check and bought the car for the price advertised. The only thing were there was a slight pressure seel was when they had me talk to this guy about extended warranty but I politley declined and that was that.

The red MS3 at luther brookdale was from some tool who was pushing 20 psi and blew the motor up. It's got an HKS bov, ms CAI and exhaust.

Did he have a manual boost controller? I have all those mods except I have a Forge BPV and boost stays close to stock...

Perhaps I did things a little differently, or perhaps it just wasn't mentioned by someone, but I went to mazdausa.com and did the Build It thing to configure the color and options I wanted and at the end of the process it allows you to search local inventory for the vehicle or get quotes. I chose the Get Quotes option to see what I'd get. Initially I got quotes from 4 different dealerships and then I notified the higher quotes of the price-to-beat. After I had negotiated my lowest price (which came from the original lowest offer...Luther in BP) I went back and searched the local inventory. There weren't any matches at first, but I went back once a week and about a month later it showed "my car" coming to a dealership in the area. I emailed my sales person at Luther and they did what they needed to do to get the car in stock and I picked it up a fews days later to give them time to prep it. This process required no "running around" and still "played games" a bit by allowing the dealerships to beat the lowest bid if they wanted my business. I was happy with the price and the only warning I would pass along is to make sure you send a final email to the salesperson detailing EXACTLY what model, color, transmission and options you're getting for the price quoted. Make sure the salesperson replies affirming said configuration. I did this and when I went to pickup my car and the standard mirror was on the car instead of the Autodim w/Homelink, the saleman pulled my email (I had a printed copy with me too, just in case) and they ended up honoring the price with the features in my email.

Nice. I did something similar with my first one, but I ended up getting a different car, because Walser wouldn't work with Morries to get me the one I wanted, I refused to let them drive a car from ND to here for me, and when I saw the SP23, I fell in love with the leather. I still miss that car.
