Just curious if anyone on here uses a police scanner or if anyone is familiar with police frequencies? I found a great source online that provides the frequencies for all of the MNPD freqs, but I cant seem to get my scanner to pickup the local chatter. If anyone has some knowledge, I would appreciate some input. Thanks!

One of my residents my last year as an RA had a scanner in his room. He also had a list of the Minnesota '10-codes', it was pretty cool to listen to when there actually was stuff going on.
I'm quite sure scanners are illegal to have in your car though, so don't go and do that.

Or at least keep it hidden and don't post about it here :)

Dan, I have that list. But, I am not quite sure how to enter the frequency into my scanner. Not that I dont know how to physically enter it, but that I dont know the exact frequency.

10-codes aren't frequencies. They are codes used by the cops to indicate what crimes are being committed.
I don't know anything about the scanner really though, so I can't help ya with that.

Yeah, I didnt realize until now that you were talking about "10-4" and those types of ten codes. I actually found a website that gives all the 5-digit codes for the scanners and most start with "10", but I think its a matter of MHz at this point. I am using a really old scanner that does not handle the 800mhz band and I think all the police are using that now.
In case anyone is interested, here is the link:

Jana's parents have one that's they use from time to time. I think they've caught my name a couple time on there when we first started dating when I would get pulled over in Decorah. But not sure.

LOL! Thats hilarious. And thats the main reason I want to get my scanner working correctly. I just want to hear the chaos that is always happening in my hood on thurs-sat nights.
Yeah, my parents (mainly my dad) listen to it quite often (or especially if they hear the sirens). They've heard AJ pulled over once...that was great hearing it from my parents before him. :)

You know, my grandfather had one of these. Big ol' beast of a tabletop model... he used to monitor all the emergency frequencies.... he loved that more than he loved television.

Thats pretty much what mine is. Its an old-ass beast that weighs about 10lbs. But, if I can get it to what I want, I dont care. :happydance:

My grandparents had one back in the day when I lived in Northern Wisconsin. I remember hearing about people hitting albino dear and loitering at McDonald's, not much else for the cops to get after up there.

Where in Northern Wisconsin? I grew up in Eagle River... and my dad had a scanner that plugged into an antenna he bolted in the attic.

Hah, that's funny, I was born right next door in Rhinelander and lived there til I was about 23. I'm up there all the time still.
