Hey all,

Edited Post...

I just placed the order for the roller, and the company I'm renting it from said it will go out 3 day UPS and I should have it Thursday or Friday. Cost for the tool is $65 + shipping back, so right around $80 total. We will split that between all that are interested in using the tool.

This is going to take place at Nate's house in Blaine (Speed6 Guy) on Saturday April 21st at around 1pm. If you want to be added onto the list of people using the roller PM myself or Speed6 and we will get you added to the list. I haven't done this before so not sure exactly how long it will take.

If you don't want to roll but want to come hang out and watch us try and figure this out you are welcome to come along.

List for the fender rolling fun.
1. MrMatt
2. Speed6 Guy
3. SpeedProjekt

What's the process for rolling your fenders?

Z-licious
04-13-2007, 02:49 PM
That's kinda short notice. I was hoping it'd be mroe like next month.

Picklz
04-13-2007, 02:49 PM
I've never done it before, but from what I gather jack the car up and set it on jackstands, take wheel off, bolt tool up to the hub and position it on the lip of the fender, heat the area to be folder up w/ the heat gun and slowly start applying pressure with the tool to roll the lip. Rinse and Repeat for all 4 fenders (or two if your just doing front/rear)

Doesn't look too difficult, I hope.

Picklz
04-13-2007, 02:51 PM
Well I'm not set on that date for sure yet, just kinda getting an idea to see if that would work. I want to do it before I install springs and I kind of want to do that soon :)

04-13-2007, 02:57 PM
Hmm. I'm planning on dropping my car at some point, but I'm not sure I'd want a severe enough drop where I'd have to roll the fenders. I might be down to jsut show up and see how it works though.

How much do you typically end up flaring the fenders outward?

AJ
04-13-2007, 03:08 PM
I want to so I can fit a better size combo when I lower the car but I won't risk causeing damage to my paint job.

HyperTek (spelling?) in Brooklyn Park does this as a regular service for a decent price as well. Their tech has some experiance on it as well.

Picklz
04-13-2007, 04:21 PM
You dont really flare the fenders out at all, if you look at your fender it comes down, rolls in towards the center of your vehicle and then runs parallel with the ground for an 3/4" or so, you roll that 3/4" lip to be perpendicular to the ground instead of parallel with it, giving you some extra clearance.

Any idea what that shop charges for all 4 fenders? If it wasn't too bad I'd just assume pay to have it done.

Z-licious
04-13-2007, 04:31 PM
Yeah, if it's under $50 it's probably wiser to pay them to do it and not risk messing up your paint by DIY job. Maybe they'll give us a group discount if we get like 4-5 guys in at the same time too.

Picklz
04-13-2007, 04:34 PM
Good thinking E

TC do you have a have a phone number / someone to contact up there? Even if it was a bit more than renting the tool the piece of mind that I'm not gonna jack my paint up would be nice.

By the looks of this last one Street Scenes Tint might be able to do it as well, and the better news is that they look to be coming on board as a sponsor. :D

Z-licious
04-13-2007, 07:21 PM
WTF? This is from the MNSC thread:

hypertek will do it for 40 - 45 bucks a corner

160-180 to roll all 4 fenders? No thanks, I'll DIY for that price.

Big Nate
04-14-2007, 01:33 AM
there is not as much to as you think. if you go sloww and take your time we will be fine. Also for the price and the fact that the risk is very low then why not do it yourself. I will rent the dam thing do mine and show you how easy it is. Not to sound like a dick.

I need to get my fender's rolled as well. I am already rubbing in the back tires. i was going to rent a kit, and do it myself, but if we make a day out of it, i'll wait.

JustROLLIN
04-15-2007, 10:14 AM
Yeah, I would come just to hang out and help out where needed. What day are you guys thinking, next saturday?

Picklz
04-15-2007, 10:51 AM
Who all would be up for next Saturday?

If we have 3+ people and somewhere to meet up at, I'll email the company I'm going to rent the roller from to make sure it's still available with no wait and order it up.

With 3 people (myself included) it'd be around $25 / each...less if we get more people.

SpeedProjekt
04-15-2007, 02:13 PM
I work until 3 next saturday, but i would show up after that if you guys are still there.

Picklz
04-15-2007, 05:00 PM
Somtime around or after 4pm would work fine for me, I don't really have the space so we'd need a place to meet up at, anyone else interested in this coming Saturday at say 4:00pm? And anyone that would be willing to host the little meet?

Just picked up a new jack and jackstands so I'll be happy to bring that along.

Big Nate
04-15-2007, 09:48 PM
I'm in. We can do it at my house. I have a two stall garage and the tools (unless there is a special tool) to do the job.

I will pm my address to all who say there in.

Nate

JustROLLIN
04-15-2007, 11:19 PM
Cool, do you mind if I do a couple other tweaks while I am there? All of tools are at my folks place. I wont be doing any fender rolling, but I would like to do a couple other small mods.

Big Nate
04-16-2007, 07:06 AM
Sure fine with me.

SpeedProjekt
04-16-2007, 07:50 AM
Sounds good to me. I'm in.

Picklz
04-16-2007, 08:03 AM
Alright thats 2 for sure, anyone else would would be able to make it and wants to use the Fender roller? SpeedProjekt? E?

Shouldn't need any tools other than a jack and a couple jackstands, and a lug wrench, and power for the heatgun.

Big Nate
04-16-2007, 08:27 AM
Ok cool I will Put the list of people on the first post. If you want your name on that list send me a pm and i will put you on. MrMatt will tell us what the total cost will be and then we will split it by the number of people WHO WILL USE THE TOOL. you will NOT need to pay if you just hang out and shoot the shit.

Cool, finally a weekend get-together I can actually get to. Nate, any chance you will have the decals done by then?

Big Nate
04-16-2007, 10:09 AM
For sure. The decals will be done in time for that.

Z-licious
04-16-2007, 11:12 AM
How long will this take? I'm moving on the 28th and still have a lot to get done before then.

Picklz
04-16-2007, 11:19 AM
Ive never done it, but I'd imagine around 15-20 minutes per fender, give or take. Maybe someone else has a better idea. I'm not sure if I'll be rolling the front, probably should since the tool is here, need to do the rear though.

Just got a response that the tool is in-stock, just waiting to verify they can have it to me by Friday, if so I'll order it and we will be set.

Awesome on the decals too!

JustROLLIN
04-16-2007, 11:22 AM
Yeah, I can do a couple tweaks and get a decal installed as well. Nice! Hopefully they have that tool on hand so we can get something going.

Picklz
04-16-2007, 04:21 PM
Just received word that getting the roller by Friday won't be a problem so we should be a go for Saturday afternoon/evening.

Big Nate
04-16-2007, 04:26 PM

SpeedProjekt
04-17-2007, 10:53 AM
i'll just show up later, since i work, if you decide to start earlier. If that's cool with you all?

Picklz
04-17-2007, 11:01 AM
Earlier is fine with me, what do you guys think? 1 or 2pm? I'm open for anything just let me know.

Big Nate
04-17-2007, 11:07 AM

JustROLLIN
04-17-2007, 11:22 AM

Big Nate

Z-licious
04-17-2007, 12:20 PM
I'm confused, couldn't you have rented a roller locally?

Big Nate
04-17-2007, 12:32 PM
why when this one is the same price and comes to your house.

JustROLLIN
04-17-2007, 01:37 PM
Nice, I will probably have a cooler full of beer if people are interested. Nothing like some drunk fender rolling to get the blood moving.

Big Nate
04-17-2007, 01:40 PM
Agreed if i'm drunk it will not bother as much if i fuck it up.

JustROLLIN
04-17-2007, 02:22 PM
LOL. Nothing like doing a bunch of work you have to UN-do once you sober up.

Z-licious
04-17-2007, 02:48 PM

Big Nate
04-17-2007, 03:01 PM

If anyone had a lead on one locally I would have been happy to go that route, but I didn't know of any and found one that had no wait at around $27/person or less if we get more people that's pretty cheap if you ask me.

Looking forward to Saturday.

SpeedProjekt
04-18-2007, 02:30 PM

Picklz

Alright guys I have the roller + heat gun in my possession, picked it up after work tonight. I'm going to be going to the dealership right away tomorrow morning to try and finalize a deal on a Speed3 :bengals:

If that works out I wont by rolling my fenders, but I'm still going in on the tool and will help out. In any event I should be there by 1pm.

And I have to say with all the forms of Alcohol that are going to be present I'm glad I might NOT be rolling my fenders LOL. :JD:
