Just curious what you all use for playing DVDs on your PC? The software that came bundled is absolute garbage, and I have to believe that almost anything would be better.... suggestions? (free is a plus!)

VLC is a very capable media player, and IIRC it can also play DVDs. And it's free.

I'll second VLC. I use it for all my media playing needs.

I just use MS WMP. I know there are a lot of MS haters on this board, but it suits my needs just fine and works nicely via network with my PS3.

Edit: Its also free. ;)

I use Cyberlink Power DVD. Got it "free."

PowerDVD is the software that's driving me nuts right now because it just refuses to play half my DVDs, and on others it takes several minutes to bring up the main menu and/or select chapters. Granted it's an ancient version because I haven't actually bought a PC new in some time.

And Joe, I was just going to use WMP, but that POS doesn't include any DVD codecs.... I'd have to pay $15-20 for that shit.

Guess I'll give VLC a whirl tonight... thanks guys!

Worse comes to worst Jay, I can find you a more recent copy of PowerDVD.

yeah, I was kinda pissed when I learned that they didn't at least include a stupid DVD decoder with that thing.

VLC/VideoLAN is awesome, use it all the time.
