View Full Version : Miata wheel and tire options.
2002 Miata and I'm looking for 16" wheels, light weight but not something that will break easily. Black, less glossy the better, and 5 spoke. For tires, anything aggressive and grippy on dry pavement, with some grip on wet pavement as well.
Last, I'm trying my best to get a package I'll like for under $1k.

I know you said you wanted black, but white would look pretty dope. Then again, if you're set on a carbon hardtop, you may as well go with black/gunmetal.
Oh, and no Black "w/ stripe" shit. Solid color only. I will be flexible on going either 15" or 16" (depending on tire size :D) and 5 spoke/glossy aspect. If I love a wheel I love a wheel.

Would you be willing to do some safety orange 15" wheels? The tires are pretty grippy in the snow and they can be yours for just under your budget!

I'll go one step further and offer you purple ones in a 16"! That's way more tire for your $$$.
I'm thinking:

Well, the Traklites are the obvious choice, but no way in hell is the package going to come in under $1k unless you go for a hacked up used set.
I'm not a huge fan of the slipstreams, but I think they would look good on the miata, and they're probably your best bet of the bunch for getting set with wheels/tires for under a grand.

Spend the extra and get the traklites. This is a Miata, not some fat beast.

You want light weight? Get Enkei RPF1s, they come in black. :) My choice would be Sparco Drift, 5-Zigen FN01R-C and Motegi Tracklite in that order.

Erik is waiting on some rims that come out in Dec... I wish I could remember the name of them. I'm sure they are uber light... plus Dec has them coming out in hot pink :P

Whoa, hot pink rims?
/me runs off to create an FS thread.
I've decided to stay with 15s and finally settled on a wheel for the car.
TRMotorsports C1M 15 x 7
http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheels/trm/swap/trm_c1_lg_ci3_l.jpg
# Size: 15x7
# Offset: +30mm
# Backspacing: 5.19"
# Bolt Pattern: 4-100
# Rec. Tire Size: 195/50-15 (going to go with 205/50s instead)
# Weight: 13.6lbs.
# Finish: Black Painted
# Construction: 1 Pc. Gravity Cast
Considering I've got 15x6 with 195/50/15 on right now, I will be moving to a 205/50/15 tire with the 15x7 wheel. A bit more wheel hitting the pavement, so should work out well for a car that will maintain the current power level for a while yet (at least 1 year).
This will give me time to look at other suspension related aspects and learn the car more.
Now to find a "decent" pair of tires. No need to break the bank, just something aggressive, yet won't kill me in the rain like the Toyos I have on currently.

Depending on your leanings for wet weather traction, I'd throw Eagle F1s into the mix. That's what was on my car when I bought it, and I was really impressed with the capability in wet weather. Even more so, given how they performed in the dry. They are a bit on the pricier side, but I wouldn't call them bank-breakers.
well shit, finally got them on order. 15x7 TRMotorsport C1M Black Painted & 205/50R15 General Exclaim UHP
My stock set of wheels/tires will be available once I have the new set. They are a set with Toyos with 23k on them and are original from 2002.

STAR SPECS! GOOOOOOOOOO. Make the Miata a 5 lug and I'll let you test mine.
Nah, I'm sticking to the <$70 a tire range. I think the set I'll end up with will look good and handle well on the car for a year or two (or more depending on miles) till the power level goes up a bit more.
I really want to get the roll bar and that CF hard top next, and paint it to match the stock color.

awww, 15 inch. They're so cute!
And lightweight and cheaper and provide a better responding drive. lol I think the Z needs 15s in the Rear, 13s up front. :D

15's are perfect. You silly azns and thinking you need giant wheels to turn good. You don't need giant wheels, you need wide tires!

That's because you need brakes that big to stop those donks that Nissan calls wheels.

If your car wasn't such a heavy pig, it wouldn't need big brakes. As Colin Chapman once said "To go faster, add lightness"

And that is why you need a silly v6. You'd get pwnerated by a Miata with 1/3rd the power when it came to turning.

My rims are 15x7 konig rewinds and are fairly light. Who knows I might even sell them and get something new! I know you said just one solid color but they come in different colors also!

I like 13-14 inch rpf1s because they look alot different than the 15+
Just like Te-37s they look better smaller.
How about some CE28Ns? If they even make them for a miata...
