So I'm looking around at upgrading the decks in both whips to something that will allow for easy USB connection and play MP3s, in doing so I found this:

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1302200UB/Pioneer-DEH-2200UB.html

If I pick up 2 of those and a new set of Polk 6x8s

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB571/Polk-Audio-db571.html

for the Miata I'll have new systems in both whips for under $315.

Thoughts?

i was thinking are the stock speakers the same size as the aftermarket ones usaly the aftermarket ones have biger magnets and means you cant role down your window and i know for how small the door pannels are i realy dont think you have very much play

I've always had excellent thoughts on Alpine. Looking to stay within your price range I found the CDE-102:

I found it $20 cheaper on Amazon too!

I've had two Alpines die on me, fuck them right in the face.

Also, remember that if you get the HU from a place like Amazon, you likely won't get wiring harnesses/dash kits with them. Yeah, Crutchfield may be $20 more, but they throw in all the installation stuff for free.

JT wins! And srsly, who kills 2 car stereos? I've never heard of one dying, much less two! wtf are you doing Colin?...switching from NPR to death metal and back?

I've had great experiences with both Alpine and Clarion, but I've got better things to do than spend an hour tracking down links n'shit...lol

Pioneer has been great for me. Alpine has died and kenwood died.

I liked one Pioneer premier deck I had, tried a cheaper one and I was not all that happy with it. Guess it depends on the SQ and Features you expect them to have. I've had 3-4 Alpine deck's and have never had an issue with one. My favorite deck to date was an Eclipse I had before the Alpine I put in the MS3, it was missing some features of newer decks though so I upgraded.

Eclipse, Alpine, Clarion, and Pioneer Premier are where I'd look.

I agree, Crutchfield makes it nearly idot proof when getting the right shit, and getting everything you need.

I've also had Song, Alpine, Clarion, RF, and Pioneer all die on me at some point in my life. I'm not looking for a $100 solution to last 10 years.

revisiting this quick. Anyone looked at decks recently that would suggest one that has front access for USB and aux? Went to Best Buy tonight and it seems like every deck was the same, just differnet brands and looks. All in the $150-$200 range too... I remember when looking at stuff and you could spend $400-$700 on a deck to get what was needed, has shit just changed that much in the last 10 years (last time I fucked with a deck).

Here ya go:

For $30 more, you can get a version that has an HD Radio tuner (worth it if you listen to the radio a fair amount, much better sound quality):

Yeah, I think I'll order up the HD one here today. I'm also looking to replace the antenna I have with a shorty, though I with I had some other options so I could just shave that fucking hole. Oh well.

I think I'll be looking at some speakers as well, get some better sound out of thoe 6"ers.

Check www.woofersetc.com

I like Pioneers current single DIN units. They're a far cry from what they used to be. :)
