so does anyone happen to know what the bulb size for the Mazdaspeed protege? for the high and low beams?
over the course of the camping trip, whether it was all the jarring from the bumps on the roads or what not my passenger side low beam went out. I'm being very optimistic and hoping it's not something else like the ballast so I'm going to replace the bulbs first.. anyone know a good brand of bulbs.. that have a super white color to them? for a decent price and where I can get them?
I know joe mentioned a bulb but I never caught the name

You really can't go wrong with silverstars. They're kind of pricey, but they are a beautiful bright white beam. Only downside is that they can have a relatively short lifetime. I've also heard good things about PIAA.
By the way, we don't have ballasts or any of that fancy HID stuff... The replaceable halogen capsules are really the only component to our headlights.
Let me look up the bulb size for you....
EDIT: Looks like we use a 9003 dual filament bulb for the low/high beams. And here's a link to Sylvania's replacement guide: http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/AutomotiveLighting/LampReplacementGuide/
Also, check out therpmstore.com
I swapped my stock bulbs for super white bulbs by Xtec.
They are called Xtec HID-matched halogens and they are $30.00/pair shipped.
And best part is they have a lifetime warranty. Yes lifetime. Mine burnt out last winter and all I had to do was shoot RPM an email and they sent out replacements. No shipping back of the burnt out bulbs required.

The brand/model I have in my car are the Phillips-BlueVision. The bulbs have won several different awards and have fantastic color and still great visibility. I would highly recommend them. My dad has the silverstars in his Vue and I am just not crazy about them. The brightness and visibility is good, but just not enough white tint to them for my liking.

Get HID's. Then you can go 6000k 50w and have them whiter that a fresh snowfall.

Are they HID white, or more of a blue? I've used the Silverstars in my previous car, but I want a nice HID white color, not yellow or boy-racer blue.

We can always retrofit something. Given that your housings are both plentiful and probably cheap, I see no issue in taking a set of OEN projectors from another source and fitting them into the back of a donated housing. Probably take a steady hand to make it work right, but I'm sure it can be done. Also, someone out there has to have a projector housing for the MSP.

White. I did not want the blue-purple tint either, just a bright white look. I can take a pic later tonight or tomorrow if you like.

Rollin, where did you pick up those bulbs? Philips' site says AutoZone carries them, but I can't find them on the site. Looks like those are the ones I'm gonna get.

I actually ordered them from the UK. I also tried at AutoZone. They had the bulbs, but not in the correct sizing. You can always ask them to order the bulbs, otherwise there is a website I can link to for ordering. They were not cheap, like $55 shipped. You also get a set of ultra white maps lights with your order, if that matters.
