okay so I had an idea to have a cruise before the summer ends. Some friends of mine took one to Stillwater last fall and it was a blast. We can all meet at porky's some day and then all cruise up in a big group. When we get there we can chill and grab lunch then i know some pretty sweet back roads that if you like fast winding corners, you'll have some fun. Let me know what you all think about this.:drive1:

I'd like to do a couple of cruises before the year is out. Stillwater is a good idea. We could meet on a Saturday evening, head out to Stillwater, grab dinner, and roll back to University to hang as long as people want. I like the idea of a dozen or more Mazdas zoom zooming down Uni in a caravan.
For fall colors later on, we could also do another run from Hastings to Stillwater on hwy 95. Great road along the St. Croix with some nice twisties.

I'll just get some big bumpers for the rear so one of you can just push me along while I'm in neutral. I'm still no where near the sound levels the vibrant made!

this is sounding good. i'd be down for sometime in late aug. or sep.
I'm gonna start pushing a date or it'll never happen.
I know the niteshades day would be Sept 8 or 9th and Labor Day's the weekend before. So I say we shoot for August 25th (or maybe 24th if we stick to the dinner thing).
That way we could have another cruise later in October for the fall colors, etc.
So, how would August 25th work for everyone?

Just don't get on it too hard in downtown stilly, and you'll be fine. It's only 30mph there anyways.

Are you sure Porkys will be ok to meet at on a Saturday at that time? I haven't been out there that early but I know that the domestic guys over run the place...
I was thinking we'd be okay that early. Worst case scenario we could park across the street or on the street.
I'd avoid claiming Porkys on a Sat. It's just not a good idea.

I'd say the Goodwill parking lot would be good, but I'm not sure if that's off limits. I wouldn't be surprised. But Porkys sounds like a scary idea for a Saturday night.

So, we're gonna need some 2-way radios, eh? I've got a pair.... who else?
When you get a route and date set in stone, start a new thread with the facts in the first post. Then we will lock this one down. I didn't know about the fuck'n BBQ because it was a stupid poll till the bitter end. Never knew a date was even picked till Joe asked if I was going a day before hand.
In the end, I'd love to see an "event group" that takes the lead on planning events and working with the admin team so that everyone knows what's going on.

Maybe time to bring on another mod for the events section? They could be in charge of keeping this section tidy and organized, and all that jazz.

Thanks...it's something I whipped up last night...it's a pic of my car "cartoonized" in some photo editing software I have on my pc at home.
It's uber easy to do with the program I have (I think it's called MGI Photosuite, or something like that). If you have a pic you want me to do for ya, I'd be happy to do so.

An event-planning group sounds like a GREAT idea. The planning of the picnic was really frustrating. Not a lot of people knew WHEN it was, what to bring, and what was going to happen once we got there.
Also, for future threads regarding meets and events, I think it may be a good idea to reserve the first few posts in the thread(s) to indicate general/important information regarding the plans (date, time, what to bring (if applicable), cost, etc). These posts should also be updated as soon as changes are made. This makes it very easy for people to keep up without having to sift through every single page in the thread, ESPECIALLY for those who are new and/or simply come into the thread later.

Not that I dont think its a good idea, but if you look at the general attitude/comments withing the BBQ thread, people were very anti-planning. People did not want to plan items, timing, etc.
And actually, the people who were anti-plans were for the most part, people who didnt show up....

Personally, I was being somewhat facetious about intentionally not planning for that deal--mostly because I'm horrible at organizing stuff like that. Take the camping trip... Jess put a ton of work into getting that lined up, and it was awesome. All I'm saying is that if people say "somebody pick out a time and place", etc, it's not gonna happen. We need planning-adept members to volunteer to at least take the lead on things like that, even if they're not going to be responsible for the entire event.
I think that underscores the need to have a couple of people volunteer to take on those responsibilities. Otherwise every meet is going to be a "Porky's". Which is fine by me, but it would be nice to have the occasional meet that involved more than just random hanging/BS'ing
