Since this year is my first year with my 3, how is winter driving with these cars? I was spoiled last year and I drove my wifes escape with AWD all winter. Its going to be a drastic change going back to just a fwd car again. I was not much of a fan of my last fwd car during the winter months. I'm not planning on putting snow tires on unless I have no other choice.

You got lucky and got the 3i, which doesn't come with the Goodyear RS-A. The Toyos (IIRC that's what's on your car) should be rock solid. These are pretty capable cars in the snow overall provided you have the right rubber on them. They tend to get a little light in the back (at least the hatches do, both of mine have felt like that) but a few bags of rock salt will cure that. Plus if you really get in a jam, you can throw some salt under the car and have instant traction!

Yeah I'm pretty sure the RSAs were invented by some sadistic tire engineer who had a secret desire to kill off as many snowy-weather-drivers as possible. If you have anything BUT those, you'll probably be okay. Still, a set of steelies with winter meats are going to turn any car into a snow-destroying monster.

Yeah, I just bought a 92 festiva to handle my winter-driving duties. Winter beaters seem to be the new fad around here.

Heh, yeah, winter beaters are cheaper than 1000$ in snow rubber.

+1 on that.

Some snow tires turn it into a tank.

What are you talking about winter beaters being the new thing around here? No one has a winter beater, lolz, I did get a daily driver though :66:

Do you beat on it? Yes

Are you driving it in the winter? Yes

Conclusion- ROFLGOLF is a winter beater.
