Like the title says I just rotated my tires for the second time I just hit 6000 miles and now when I’m on the freeway I get a really bad steering wheel vibration at 65 mph and up. I was wondering could this be a balance issue. I really am lost so any ideas would be much appreciated. And yes the wheels are on and torqued to specs.

It is a torque issue. Take them off clean both the rim and the hub. Put them back on and retorque, ten to one the vibration will go away. and if that is not it then they are out of balance but that would suprise me.

Either that, or the tires are out of round. The issue may have been present before, but not noticeable due to tire position. When working in a shop, drivers often come back after a rotation and have issues. Just turns out that they were not aware of an issue that was already present.

But yeah, check the lugs and make sure everthing is tight as well.

So i took the tires off and re torqued em and the vibration is still there. I guess the tires could be out of round but that should subside after a little driving eh?

I bet they need to be balanced.

any updates on this issue? I am still wondering what it might be.

Google "65 mph shimmy".

Sure, it pulls up tons of Miata sites, but the principle is just the same. Miata's are just overly sensitive to it. ;)
