I know this cool guy that puts on Advanced Driving Clinics @ Dakota Tech for the BMW crowd, and he expressed interest in having the Mazda guys there. They have a skidpad and all kinds of fun stuff there, figured someone might be interested. Here is a link to the event-

Anyone? Thoughts? Possible spring MN Mazda get together?

Count me in for the clinic. Sounds way more fun then a normal health clinic.

Im sure Tom will update the OP but should be around $100, you get an instructor to ride-along with you. Not sure on actual track time but for $100 it sounds like a blast.
DCTC isn't as fast of a track as BIR or RA so a little less risk, still may want to find out from your insurance company if your covered or look into coverage if your not (if its your daily driver).
Here's a youtube video of the track on a bike, I dont know if its the same configuration for cars, but Ive heard from some friends that have been there that its a pretty tight/twisty track.

Looks like a fun track, even if the setup is slightly different. Tight track = lower speeds = less chance of something going bad when you screw up.

Although as stated with many other things.... "Anything is possible if you're talented enough"

They are very serious about being safe. Having fun and being safe. After this clinic you can do a track weekend up in Brainerd but that is a lil more expensive

Sounds like fun, although I'm not sure if an April date will work for me, thinking my car won't be ready till mayish.

Indeed need some more info.
Are we looking at going to this exact event or just setting a similar one up? If this event where / how do we register, and do we know what it costs to become a 'member' as it says membership required for the event.

you shouldnt have to worry about that. Let me talk to my contact. I will call him this weekend but if anyone has more questions let me know so I can make one phone call. The event takes place at Dakota County Technical college in Rosemount, MN. You should be able to register right online and as far as being a member that soundt be a big deal!

I'll try and get taya to call Mark tonight about this. With any luck we can get some updates, and i'll post them as soon as I have them.

That'd be great Tom, this is approaching quickly and I know some of these things fill up fast once Spring approaches. If we could get all the details sorted out (cost, what we get, where we go to register, if we have to be a member of their car club and cost, etc) and put in the first post that'd be awesome. I'm still down for this as long as it ends up being resonably priced.

IIRC, it's 100$ a head, like the link said. But, i'll try and get it sorted tonight, so we can get that rollin. Mini's gettin new brakes, gotta make sure they hot!

DCTC is a fun course. The local autocross group holds several events there and they only cost around $30 and you can have an instructor ride with you if you'd like.

It's supposed to be held 19-APR-2008, just waiting on specific registration details and a finalized cost.
I asume we'll need helmets, do they have a list of what spec(s) are acceptable? I'll have to check the site again maybe it was listed and I missed it.

hmm... a little advanced driving to break in my new car I guess

What better place to break it in I say! If you've mastered the clutch by then that is.

a very good point. I have test driven it probably a dozen times though. I'm sure I'll put a ton of miles on it the day I buy it. I have a special route home planned just for the turns and stuff on the way.

Ohh yeah I forgot you've already put some miles on in a Speed, I drove one like 3 miles and was like DONE order me one! lol.

Lets try and keep this about the driving clinic now.
Please take any talk about Opus to the private side. It's a respectabel thing to due for those who know about the place and want to keep it's fun aspect from hitting rock bottom.

I would be in for this but after hearing Jeffs story this makes me weary...
mndsm
03-10-2008, 09:16 AM
This is a lot smaller course, you won't see the speeds that Jeff hit. You really would have to do something pretty damn stupid to ball it up.

Is the date April 19th? I got that day off I just dont know if all the snow and salt will be gone, and im obsessive over not driving her until its all gone and washed away.
This sounds like a lot more fun than drag racing! If its a for sure thing I will attend!
Edit: I contacted progressive and sent them the details the event contained, and they said as long as I am the one operating my vehicle I would be covered. Which contradicts what TCspeed6 has said about his Progressive contact... Hmm?

It's driving instruction, not a race event. You will have an instructor in the car with you.

Get it in writing that you will be covered at the specific event you are attending or I would take it with a grain of salt (no pun intended). This is considered a educational / training event so you might have a better chance, but I wouldn't count on it. We have had a member find out the hard way that even if it's not a 'timed' event they can deny coverage since it's not on public roads.

It might help, depending on who it was from and how it was worded. It'd be better to be signed from your insurance agent or company but they likely won't do that. Might not hurt to ask, though.

Find out if you can if we need to be members of whatever it is that is required. How much that costs and how we become members if it is required.
My grandparents are moving on the 19th, so I may not be able to make it :(
My uncle hired "Two men and a Truck" to move them though, so they might not need my help.
