Thread: offset calculator?

  1. #1

    Default offset calculator?

Anyone know of a good way to calculate offset, or a formula I can use to determine how big a wheel/tire combo I can stuff under my car? I'm hoping to get a set of wheels this spring, and in my crazy pursuit for being a PITA and doing things the hard way, I want to step down to a set of lightweight 17's. They're generally cheaper, a lot lighter than the cast 18's that came stock on my car ( 07 ms3 for those interested) and I can run way more tire with the clearance I'll get. Just trying to figure out/juggle some numbers and see how wide I can go before I run into rubbing issues. I know I've talked about it enough, and I wanted to put it into a thread, in case anyone else ever thinks like me.

For figuring out tire sizes from stock to aftermarket this one is a great tool as well. You get a good visual idea of tire selections compared to stock and there impact on speedometer etc.

Thanks for putting up that link Jurgen, but now I'm obsessed with playing around with different wheel and tire sizes which is probably going to convince me I need bigger (read: more expensive) wheels and lower profile (more expensive AGAIN) tires. I wonder if Tom has figured out how to get 20s on his car yet...lol
