And honestly, the weekly meets don't have to go away. I think the big problem here is that we've sort of stagnated on the fact that it's Porkys EVERY Wed. I can only stand around so much and see the same 12 cars and hear the same bullshit and deal with the same drama for so many weeks before I just don't give a fuck anymore. I've stuck it out this long because I got shit else to do, but honestly, I am tired of that scene. Sure it was cool at first to see the parking lot load up and have it all be because we started something, but then, all the people we might like to see go away, and we're left with the riffraff.... no offense to anyones homies, but I can think of several occasions where I was like "WTF is this person doing here?" It's not even that it's an ethusiast of Mazda vs. enthusiast of Subaru/Evo/Honda/whatever, it's that it's enthusiast, vs. scummy dirtbag looking for street racing. Our own attitudes got the best of us. I don't want to sound elitist, because ultimately, I could really give a fuck who shows up where, and when.... but we've attracted some real characters as of late, and with some of the things that have already happened, it's only a matter of time before something serious happens and someone ends up hospital/jail/dead. And I don't know about anyone else, but that is not something I want on my head. Sure, people are responsible for their own actions, but no matter what- the minute someone says "Wed, Porkys, shit got real" SOMEONE is going to associate that with us. Sure that might be my paranoia talking, but it's my party now dammit, I can be paranoid if I want to.
That being said- I am NOT opposed to others with non-mazdas showing up. Hell, half the regular members here don't even have Mazdas anymore. But what I do not want is the elitist R/K or Eurowerks shit, where everyone bags on everyone else. You don't have to like someone elses car (I freely hate on Dookie's Si) but if it's genuinely well executed, or something different, or otherwise not a POS, we need to calm that shit down. We also need to focus on our core audience, which thusfar, has been Mazda. I know it doesn't seem like that makes a difference, but it has. We're also starting to get recognition as sort of the goto for anyone local, with mazda stuff. That article in the paper actually has gotten me a few phone calls from people asking questions and things of that nature, so the word IS out there. But instead of saying "Oh this sucks" or "that part is shit and you can only do it this way" and whatever else.... try and be supportive.
/rant- but anyhow, I think a BIG part of getting away from the negative image that we've garnered, and to reinforce the positive image, or what little of it we do have.
