However, the 2012 Soul is the new improved GDI powertrain. I get 23-24 in everyday driving on my 6. Generally about 20 on the RX-7. Drove a Cruze in Florida about 300 miles. Trip computer said only 33 - 34 mpg overall in highway driving. Was very disappointed by that for a compact.

Nope... It was an E0 Toreador Red with a midnight interior and crosslace Moda Sport (think BBS-style) wheels. I used the stock E0 wheels in the winter. My current handle on CEG is the same as here... changed it after I sold the Contour.

True, it never hurts to see if the dealer or Mazda Regional can devote some of the "customer care" dollars they get budgeted for out-of-warranty items.

Unfortunately, a TSB does not mean the cost of the repair is covered under any additional warranty in most cases. It just means Mazda is aware of the issue and has a prescribed fix.
