That's going to depend. Is the car being stored inside or outside? I personally wouldn't put a $40 ebay special on my car, it's very very likely going to leave you w/ scratches in the paint.

I would personally never put a car cover on my car. No matter how long you are storing it. If you store it outside get one of those tents. Best plan would be to rent a space in a storage area park it in there and cover it with THIS.

I'm a strong believer in a good car cover, as it is amazing the dust that can accumulate and crust on over time. I would use a car cover even inside one of those tents or a storage area (I use one for my RX-7 in my garage). However, you do need to get a good one and keep it clean.

Get the plastic then you can just toss it away and put new stuff on every time you cover. thus no need to car for it and no need to worry about scratches.

CoverKing and Covercraft both make good stuff, you get what you pay for with a cover and for a good outdoor one it's going to be up there in price. No cover would be better than a cheap one IMO.
