Digital Camcorders

I currently use a very basic Cannon video camera with DV tapes. I'm looking for something basic that allows an easier functionality of getting the video to the computer and not having to keep track of all the tapes.

My primary buying source right now is looking for new on ebay, but I'm not sure wtf to get, what's good, and what's going to be better to use for just a fraction more $.

If your planning to make homemade vids w/ Dans mom make sure you look for something with a SOOPER wide lens.

looking for more of a camcorder, not a camera. Though that does look really nice, I have a good camera already, doesn't change the fact my photos look like shit.

I researched into these a while back and everything I learned as far as reviews (i.e. CNET, etc.) is that Canon and Sony are at the top of the heap.

HDD were the best for maximum space and easy download to PC. And the Flash Memory is starting to get more popular as price drops for the cards. These are probably the best option since they can hold a decent chunk, easily download, and cost a few hundred less generally.

Sony Flashdrive Cam - $550

Other Sony Flash - $500

Canon Flash Cam - $650

Oh and these are all full HD. So you could spend less under the same ideas with non-HD, but you might regret it down the line...

Ivan - how long of video can you take? is it limited?

I was also thinking of the little Flip Camcorders that would be easy to carry around. My co-worker just picked up the older model at Costco for around $100 and she loves it (for just home video type stuff).

If you're planning on shooting indoors as well as out, you might want to keep an eye out for video cameras that offer the ability to have an external light to add more brightness. Most camcorders come with a weak light that gives you less than 10' of range to shoot effectively. Either that or pay attention to the low-light quality when reading reviews.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of the HD recorders, simply because I'm nowhere near a professional cameraman, and I like the idea of my home videos looking like home videos in the traditional sense. There's a certain nostalgia when watching old videos with their flaws, but maybe that's just me.
