DVRs / Moxi Box

Anyone here gone the route of a Moxi or TiVO opposed to the monthly charges of the Cable Company Box?

I'm looking for options and considering the Moxi box since there is no monthly fee, but it's also a fairly hefty up front cost.

Bumping this up again... I'd like to find something not TiVo that will allow me to record or even pause live TV when the regular football season hits in a few short weeks.

Jana and I dropped our cable down to the basic of the basic (apparently we had to keep that in order to keep our internet price from going up) in the spring and we have no desire to go back to it. With a Hulu + account for tv, and Netflix for movies and other tv, we don't have a need, and frankly we don't miss it. But I'm a football nut, and really want to have some sort of option for the games. So any suggestions would be awesome.

I've got a TiVo, and while it has a nice interface and nice plugins for Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, etc.., the box or s/w is junky. It crashes at least once a week and can't stream worth anything.
Slightly offtopic since it doesn't pause live tv, but I did pick up an apple tv yesterday and am really liking it. Plus, I hear you can install XBMC on it. Win.
