Floor jack recommendations?

So I was all set on buying a Harbor Freight special aluminum lo-pro floor jack ($60 with coupon!), but then I realized the total lift height is only a bit over 14". My $20 jack right now lifts to 12.5", so that's barely even worth my trip to HF, let alone the price.

I'm curious if anyone here has a jack they've been really happy with. I'm looking for a low-profile jack with a minimum lift height of 16" (prefer 18"+), and if I'm going to drop $150 or so on a tool, I'd like to know that at least one person has had it work and hold up well.

(or if you're looking to upgrade, I'm not too proud to buy someone else's sloppy seconds! lol)

The jack I got from HF is the same one you were looking at (only bonus LEDs) so I can't really help ya as far as one going up tall. But so far it's worked out well.

Sloppy seconds from Pete's mom are ALWAYS free.

I'M OFFENDED!
I bought this nasty beast of a Torin jack from Walmart for 100$. Works prettty good, strong enough to move the front subframe on my car into position w/o needing boards on it. Neat thing we discovered too, as long as you don't hulk down the handle, it DOES have more than a drop the car on the fucking ground setting. Only 100$ too.

The bad- That sumbitch is SILLY heavy.

http://www.torinjacks.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=47 That is essentially the one I have... Walmart wasn't listing it online.

Is that the exact same one you have? When I lifted my car at AJ's, it didn't seem like it had a 20" lift.

God damn site!....I totally typed up a recommendation on this one HERE, so here we go again! I got the exact same jack in Red from Costco for around $90 or so, and I'm VERY happy with the lift height and stability of the jack. It's heavy, but the weight just reinforced the excellent quality of the equipment afaic. You can certainly check it out for yourself any time at my place, and I'd be willing to pick one up at Costco if you decide that's the way you want to go.

This pic says it all, I think.

Interestingly, one of the guys on mnautox.com just posted thread about a deal on the jack Pete, and it seems he highly recommends it as well. (Deal is just the same link Pete posted)

Jay, if you wanna get one of those jacks from Costco, I have a membership there too.

Damn, that looks like exactly what I'm looking for, and the price is right too. Thanks guys!

Now I just need to figure out how to acquire one by this weekend.... haha. If anyone would be so kind as to help me scam one from Costco I'd make it worth your while.

I'm done with work at 2:30 on Friday if you want to meet up to pick one up. It might even be easier for me to just pick one up for you right after work and then just meet up and you can pay me back (I'll bring a receipt with the total). Just PM me if you're cool with that.

Sounds like you may have made a decision already, I bought this and love it, worth every penny I've pad. Really low min height and a decently long reach, built like a tank too.

EDIT: Did I really just recommend the same jack as previously recommended in this thread? Reading the thread before posting FTW I guess eh? lol

Yep that's the same one Pete posted. lol

And actually, Nanami and I have been meaning to get a Costco membership for awhile now. I think we will head down there tomorrow night and check it out. If the jack is still there at that price, we'll just sign up ourselves. But thanks for the offers though!

I know Costco carries different products at different locations, so it may or may not be at the one nearest you guys Jay. I know for sure they had it at the Coon Rapids location 2 weeks ago.

Well the one in St Louis Park is way closer than the Coon Rapids one, so I'll give that one a shot. But thanks for the heads-up :D

Well, it took me 3 tries, but I found a Costco with that jack in stock. Totally fucking worth it though. Pete, you're my hero for pointing out that costco carries that beast for only $95!!!

That Costco Jack fuckin rules, easy to let stuff down at a slow rate. Also, the orange dead-blow mallet from Harbor Freight was easily the most useful tool we used today.

I'm glad you guys were as happy with it as MrMatt and I both are with ours. I picked one up for Tim on Sunday morning too. Sorry Coon Rapids was sold out of them, and thanks to Colin for letting me know Maple Grove had them in stock. For anyone even slightly considering a Costco membership, the savings on this jack alone vs. the regular price at Northern Tool pays for 1 year of membership! Jay, now that you're a member, you'll have to stock up on microfiber towels there too. 36 towels for $15....awesome price, and a must-have for detailing.

I saw those! And when I signed up they gave me a coupon for a huge pack of brawny shop towels. I love those things.
