I just picked up my mazdaspeed 3 gt last friday...yup on leap year day! Just wanted to introduce myself on the forum, maybe I'll be able to hit some meets up in the cities if they are on a weekend. Otherwise I live in Duluth, any other members up here?

This is my first manual daily driver so I kinda suck at it. Any tips for starting on hills? For now I do the ebrake trick but then I seem to stall or spin the tires...I dont think I'm fast enough yet to use the clutch/gas only. Comes with time and practice I suppose?

Find a parking lot with an incline where there is no traffic. Sit and try and balance the car on that grade, using only gas and brake. That ought to help you.

Definitely comes with time/practice. I would spend some time launching the car without gas... just letting off the clutch really slowly so you get used to where the clutch actually starts to catch. Once you figure that out, you can let out the clutch enough to catch a little bit while you still have the break pedal down. You will notice the RPMs on the tach drop a little because you are slipping the clutch and the car wants to move forward. This will prevent the car from rolling backwards and you can launch from there. Not the best on the clutch because you are slipping it, but it works.

Both good tips that help you get a feel for the engagement point of the clutch and a sense for how much gas and clutch you need to use.

Also, welcome! We were up in duluth for a camping trip last summer, and we're in the process of planning a spring cruise that may put us up in the area. Some of the events we have in the works might be worth a trip down to the cities as well.

Yes, yes I will. But you will learn on your car, as that is the one you have to drive. I can teach anyone to drive a clutch.

Good question. I thought it was on the dashboard. Maybe it is on the bumper after all.

The temp sensor is in the middle of the bottom grill, its black and has a gray adapter plug. Mine was unplugged, hooked it back up and its good to go. Also found that the brake air duct plastic is whats cracked (next to the fog light in the bottom grill) so ill see if i can order that.
