Offerings at this year's L.A. Auto Show have been overshadowed by the financial plight of U.S. automakers. But can the alternative-fuel cars unveiled here help Detroit avoid bankruptcy and get back on track?

This year is kind of a wash, and in many cases simply making do with that they already have in the best light possible. However, next year, they need to have something more revolutionary to show the public if they want to show they are interested in competing.

I think the current Hybrids and even the little smart car will actually suffer in resale once the next years line up comes around. I know we've seen most of the lineup, but you have to think some changes are coming, and coming soon.

Also, when are we going to start looking at some of these regulations we've put on for saefty and such that have killed production costs.

100% agreed. Also, it would likely be in the best interests of all parties to form reciprocity trade agreements with some countries so if the car is certified there it is automatically certified here with no additional tests or expense required.
