I just read an article in c&d. Dudes took a brand new crystal white mazda5 and a totalled ed speed3. Swapped engine, seats, ecu, fuel system, seats, cobb intercooler,ms cai from the speed3 and put it all into a mazda5. Added the forged ms3 wheels to top it off. Ill dig up a link if I can when I get home. But thought id post up the find incase I forget.

It's a great plan in theory, too bad C/D fucked it up royally. They didn't seem to get any help from Mazda's engineering teams, so they ended up frankensteining the shit out of the car...for example, they had to leave the MS3's speedo in the glovebox, because the MS3 ECU they used wouldn't work without it (something I think a Mazda engineer could easily fix, it's just software). By the time that article hit print, they still hadn't completely finished the car; IIRC the final 0-60 was something like 7.8 seconds (even *I* could take it).

We all know how much of a PITA these engines are and it sounded like they were running into some major fuel/boost cut. Also, they were enlisting the help of a local tech school. I wish they would have just thought ahead and ordered an AP w/ the cobb fmic, but I still have faith that they will pull off some decent 0-60 times.

Maybe it is just the soft spot I got for the mazda5 in general, but I dug it.

Colin- you must have missed this part:

In both cars, the PJB and the BCM sit behind the glove box, but Mazda R&D said that substituting the BCM for the PJB would be next to impossible.

Sounds like hardware to me... too bad they couldn't have figured that out in the beginning.

Looks to me like they made a lot more work for themselves by rewiring the entire car, but a good way to keep a class busy for a few days. I doubt they would have needed to do that much work had they looked at what wiring that they really needed and were able to work the electonics from the MS3'3 cluster into the Mz5's cluster.
