so, its been 454 days exact since i moved here to minnesota, and so far ive loved it up here, people are nice, summer is the best, the seasons, i definitely love it, you have the option of 2 completely different cities in less than 15 miles away. the twin cities are amongst the top 10 cities to live in all the states, and i figured id prod be sticking around for quite a few more years, id love to move to the northwest coast in my twenties though, but for all the peps in here, what do yall think of minnesota, and whats the best thing the the cities offers you as a person?
just curious to see why people like or dont like the cities

I do like the cities, been here more than 5 years. Before that I was up in the middle of nowhere in north wisconsin, I really liked it there too.

the cities have a lot going for it. Great people, decent work, tons of stuff to do, easy to get around in...however after 30 years in the cold, I'm really not into it anymore. I'm not going to move to the south because I think the heat would kill me, but I'm really wanting to move out to the north-west where it is a reasonable temp almost all year long. I just hope they play hockey there.

IMO, the only real drawback of living here is the cold/snow in the winter. (I guess I would like a longer spring/fall season as well, but that kind of goes along.) Minneapolis/St Paul have an amazing cultural scene, all the major professional sports are represented (for better or for worse... lol), several major corporate HQ's, all kinds of activities for the outdoorsman, and so on.

I personally wouldn't want to live in a metropolitan center that was much larger, but I also wouldn't want to live someplace much smaller either--I think it's just the right size where you can get a little of almost any scene you like without being a sprawling urban jungle.

Like both of you guys said though, if I was going to move out of state in the near future, the northwest would likely top my list. Portland or Seattle are similarly-sized cities that have a lot of the same characteristics as minneapolis, sans the cold and snow. Plus, I used to live in oregon, and I'd love to be near the mountains and ocean again.

i'm in the same boat as Kyle. I lived in northern MN for 7 years and moved down here in 2004. I've gotten used to the winter so it doesn't bother me as much any more, plus there are fun things to do in the snow.

Everything is within a decent driving distance as opposed to having to drive 2-3 hours just to go shopping at a decent mall, and there is many more things to do at any given time. From the sporting events & concerts to the occasional car show or even a trip to the Sci Museum.

If there was anywhere else i'd consider living it would probably be texas since i have family there or out west in Northern Cali/Washington.

Minnesota rulz all. But if Mc Cain wins and some how Palin ends up prez, I will truely learn how fast my car can go as a race for the northern boarder. Vancover sounds like my type of town, I could see myself living there one day.

I like MN cuz of the people. I was in NYC and everyone I talked to was like your not from here are you?? People are the only reason I would or would not live sonewhere.

Minnesota is great, I never want to live anywhere else unless there is more snow and a longer winter without it being much colder. I've lived here all my life except for 5 years in Kansas when I was little. The people here are great. Having four seasons is awesome. Lakes, woods and camping in the summer. Snow in the winter. Wearing tshirts and driving with the windows down on the first nice day in the spring. Car cruises in the fall to see the trees turning color.

For anyone who doesn't like the winter, my only suggestion is to make more of it. Go skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, ice fishing, snowshoeing.... Do something outdoors! Prepare to be out in the cold for a couple of hours and you will be as comfortable as you are wearing shorts in the summer.

I am still not use to MN yet. I moved here from NJ about 2 years ago, and for me everything is well not the same:

I decided to make a list lol...sorry to hijak, dont get me wrong I like MN, but its just different
1) Too spread out too much country, farms everywhere
2) Too many chain restraunts, chain stores...almost nothing original or new.
3) The pizza is god awful. However I have found a place called Andrea's pizza that makes new york style pizza. Surprisingly he is from NJ, hence the good pizza.
4) No Beach's...like with oceans...lake beachs dont count
5) No real summer hang outs..on the east coast everyone and i mean everyone would go to the shore. It would be a massive parking lot driving 60+ miles to South Jersey, it was basically a car show the whole way down. If you left at the right time you could litterally get in 10 - 20 races
6) Holy shit cold winter...NJ had its share of cold winter, but i think the coldest i ever saw it was about 20 degrees
7) No real theme parks in close proximity, ok Valley Fair, but go to the Six Flags in NJ then compare.
8) NO FUCKING 1/4 MILE TRACK CLOSE AT ALL...srsly 2 hour drive to get to the strip? No thanks. I thought the 2 strips within 20 miles of my house was far in NJ
9) Car population, while everyone i met in the clubs in mn are super nice. I actually miss racing asshole dousche bags that think their cars are fast, then smoking them by 10 cars on a regular basis.
10) 92 octane vs 94 octane

11) My BIGGEST complaint about MN...THERE ARE NO TREES or any shape to the land at all, its just flat. I am use to huge forests all around me, with large communities in them, driving through the mountains etc.

People may think that NJ is a shit hole, but if you get out of the Airport area and the northeast Jersey by NYC...its actually probably one of the most beautiful states I have seen in terms of scenary.
