I've built a couple custom boxes, what you are describing doesn't sound too hard to do. Once you decide on a sub you have to figure out if you want ported or sealed, and then design the box based on that (different subs are going to like different sized boxes). Some subs do really well in sealed or ported, some are fine in either. Ported is generally louder, and a bit more 'boomy' depending on the sub, sealed isn't quite as loud but is usually tighter bass. How much do you know on the custom box side of things? I wouldn't mind doing a slim box across the back seats in the truck on my MS6 with the box housing 1 12", the amp and cap. I don't really want to get rid of the stock deck though.
The sub I'd prefer would be a brand new RF Series 1. But Since that doesn't generally become very much of an option I really don't know. I've been out of touch for a while on the audio shit. I'm a guy who likes shit to flow well, look good, and sound great. Has to like bass often forund with Bone Thugs and such. I'd prefer one AMP to power everything down the road. I also don't want overkill or want to spend a ton, but I won't go cheap either. Can I be any more complicating.I've built a couple custom boxes, what you are describing doesn't sound too hard to do. By using a line converter you can splice into the speaker wires (or stock sub wire if you have one) to get a signal, that converts the high level signal to a low level (RCA) signal that you can plug into your new sub amp. I had a 10" and amp installed in my 6 before I replaced anything, just unhooked the stock sub and put that in place, worked out pretty well.
What are you thinking about getting as far as sub/amp goes?

Well if I came up with the tools and work space (my garage) or some other location, I'd be interested in getting some work done as well. I'm going to see if I can find some specific items I might want to use and get your opinion on them and how they would work together.
