New Speakers

So I came to the conclusion after doing some reading that the stock speakers in the Ms3 suck apparently. I know that acceptable upgrades would have to be 6x8 for the doors, and was curious what people have upgraded to? Not looking to spend a wad of $$$ either.

Also anyone upgrade the tweeters in the doors?

figured i might as well look into this since i am going to try and install the music keg this week.

I installed Infinity Reference 6x8's in the rear doors, and Reference 5.25" components in the front doors. The Reference (and Kappa as well, IIRC) tweeters fit in the factory sail panels and just need a little bit of hot glue to keep them put.

If you didn't think they suck before you read about them sucking they're probably fine then!

Good point Josh. If you're just replacing them because you read that they suck, it's probably not really worth replacing them. For the money you might be best served with adding a modest-sized sub to the system.

i say if your still getting decent sound out of them and stay with em, once they start carpping then you replace em

Don't fix what isn't broken!!! I agree with Jay, you'll probably get the best bang for your buck by adding a decent modest subwoofer.

If you start swapping out speakers, you'll end up wanting to replace the deck, and then stuff starts rolling down hill. Before you know it you'll have added an air ride suspension and neons with a side exit exhaust. No good.

But in all reality, what's missing most from the majority of factory stereos is robust low-end, which is why I would suggest adding something like an Infiniy BassLink. Compact, powered sub that's well-suited for filling out the lows.

Even if you go with top of the line upgrades for the door speakers, you'll still be missing good low-end.

Yeah, realistically, unless you're a true audiophile, replacing a set of speakers is going to do nothing for you. To me, it sounds like you've been ok with the factory thus far, I see no reason to change it now.

I replaced the factory speakers in my wife's Saturn a couple years ago w/ (2) pair of Boston Acoustic mid line speakers. They set me back about $100/pr. I didn't want to swap the stock deck or add a sub or amp...etc cause it's the wife's car & she don't like me messing w/ it.

Anyway, we could not believe the difference a better set (or two) of aftermarket speakers did for her. It made a world of difference, better highs, more extended bass. Vocals were more pronounced.

In my Miata, I replaced the Infinite 5.25's w/ a pair of Focal 6.5's. That also made a world of difference. I can crank it up a couple notch's more now before it starts to distort. I do plan to add an amp & new head rest speakers but probably in the spring now. That will help w/ the sound when the top is down which is most of the time
