Indeed it has been done many a time on quite a few different Mazdas. I am planning to do just that with a adapter plate as well to allow for easy installation of a oil pressure (and maybe temp) gauge. I thought there was a writeup around here somewhere on how to install it, but it's pretty straight forward from what I can tell.
I have it on my car. Best part is Walser will change the new spin on filter with my free oil changes since it is a Mazda part. I have a oil temp gauge hooked up to it.
That's what the conversion kit is. There isn't a Mazda approved conversion. It just so turns out that the filter mount from a Mazda 2.0l engine is the same mount shape and size as what fits the 2.3l engine. Except it's a spin-on setup instead of cartridge. People have been doing this since the Mazda 6 2.3l came out in 2003.
If you want to make sure, email them both and ask what the Mazda part number is.
Right, but there is more than one different spin-on adapter piece... I don't remember exactly what the difference is, but yeah, Colin sold his to Nate because he got the wrong one for his car... unless I'm remembering things wrong.
Yeah, how I ended up with one is because Morries ordered me the wrong part...I ended up with the one with the oil cooler line fittings when I needed one without. Never ended up doing the mod anyway, the cartridge isn't that much more of a PITA to me.
