On the job hunt...

Just feel like I've been swept under the rug and forgotten one too many times here. I've worked my tail off, added numerous responsibilities and even took on my boss' roles after she was laid off with zero compensation increase in 2.5 years.

I currently work for a senior housing real estate development company coordinating all the marketing efforts for our current projects. I graduated with a marketing degree, but honestly don't feel the desire to keep working in this industry.

And that's part of the issue - I don't know what I want to do, where I want to go, etc. I've put my resume on a few sites with limited response other than insurance sales (not gonna happen). I'd love to get into something automotive related, but there's not enough money to be made at a place like MAP, and I'm not going to sell cars.

Most of you know me pretty well. If you guys have any openings, or hear about any that may be of potential interest, please pass 'em on. Honestly, I'll look at just about anything (other than rail road jobs).

Thanks guys.

I'M OFFENDED!
Any chance of getting in with a marketing dept at a place like Walser/Morries/Motorwerks? You'd be around cars, but not have to SELL cars. And I can see a lower price market (Mazda as example) wanting to hire a fresh young guy with some marketing experience, as you fit right into the target market of who a lot of those folks are trying to sell to.

I sent an inquiry over to Motorwerks, and stumbled upon Service Advisors making pretty decent starting money. I'm going to start blanketing dealers around the area and go from there.

Thanks Tom.

Just looking at local companies websites. You'll find those to be more current and easier to sift though than some of the larger job sites.

Have you gone to those in your company and stated your case. If have to say, "I'm making this, I've done this, and I feel like I'm worth this", what's the worst they'll say. You're not directly asking for a raise, but getting your value in their heads. It also says to them, if we want to keep him, we need to do something. If they do nothing, you'll know where you stand fairly quickly.

Honestly, I would if I felt it would do any good. Being a small company (now less than 20 people), and knowing the company's still struggling to survive, and that my new boss could essentially take over my roles if need be, it's a conversation not worth having. At this point, it's time to take the experience and skill set I learned and simply move on...

Must be afraid to make money..... its okay, most people are.
That...and freezing my ass off.

For a lot of places (and current economy, etc), if you don't ask they won't give you a raise. And from what you're stating you've got the work ethic and history to merit an increase. I wouldn't give an ultimatum "I want this or I'm gone." But, state your case, the worst they can say is no. Then, move on if you feel you have to.

See above post. Get this - I did a self assessment last March and never got a review. I followed up with him 2 weeks and a month later with no result. I was told by my former boss (the one I basically took over) that I'd get a review at 3 months, 6, and a year. In the 2.5 years I've been here I'm making the same since I started.

Carousel is filled up with service advisors at the moment. Both at Audi and Porsche. Service advisors have always been internal promotions in our dealerships. Not sure how other companies operate like Morries.

Can you tell me what their job's like? Aside from the obvious job description in postings. Looking to see if it might be something I'm interested in.

They vary hugely. At porsche the advisors are super chill and seem to have a good time. When i'm over at audi they all seem like theyre about to have a heart attack cause the customers are pressuring them to get their cars done quicker. I mean if you can deal with stress and people that don't understand what it takes to fix a car then it would be a good position for you. But again I feel like experiences would vary depending on dealership. Audi owners tend to be a bit more snobbish than lets say chevy or honda owners.

NOWAI!

Try to get a job at Walser, you could help their service department get its shit together.

And I feel your pain about no raises or promotions for a long time...I'm in the same boat, last 2 reviews have been stellar but no raises and my workload has gone up significantly. Honestly, though, I think a good chunk of America is in the same position too.

We are looking for a go-getter very low entry sales person for a new company we purchased. Not sure if you are interested in working your butt off for nearly nothing....probably not since you were looking for a raise.

I'll keep my eyes opened for you.

True story. Some of my co workers haven't seen a raise in 2-3 years. UHG was tricksy though, and changed the review scale to determine how you get one, and actually made it merit based, and on a curve. So- basically in my dept, they're using me to give no one else raises because I wreck the curve for fun. When they announced that change, I nearly fell over laughing.

Not getting a raise while taking on increased tasks isn't the main reason why I'm looking for a new job, but yeah I totally agree the last few years have hit nearly every sector pretty hard. I just so happen to be working in the hardest-hit one.

Honestly, I don't think I could handle a sales job unless it was something like car parts haha. Thank you for your help.

The Story Teller....
I kind of had a feeling they might be a requirement for that job, but ya never know..... VP of US operations could be some cougar who likes vettes.... <.< Either way, I bet it pays a holy fuck pile.

Oh, and my job doesnt consist of any manual labor. Most labor I do is go for a walk, then sit on a train and sleep.
