SUDO Make me a SAMCH
Most of you know I've been working on finishing off the garage in the place I bought this spring, and since AJ posted his Big Ass Garage (BAG) thread I decided I'd follow suit and post a thread about Project LAG or Little Ass Garage. I know it's not actually tiny but for a 2 car it's a little tight, and it seems tiny compared to that monster AJ built lol.
So far I haven't gotten all that much done, and my camera is crap so I haven't taken a lot of before/in progress shots, but I'll post what I can and try and take more pictures as I go.
The garage had the drywall up and was insulated when I bought it, but the mud work had not been done so I started with that. I had never done any of that before so it was a bit of a learning experience. Once I got the seams and nail / screw holes covered up I sanded it down and threw up a primer coat. Finally came the paint, I went with dark gray on the bottom and white up top and on the ceiling, I seperated the gray and white with a red stripe which you can see in process in the pictures below, I didn't think to prime/paint that area before going with the red, which I think was a mistake which I'm working on fixing right now, also I bought a quart can of Glidden Everlast for the red, very unimpressed with that paint and I likely won't buy it again.
Final thing I've gotten (mostly) taken care of is the floor. I was going to go with an Epoxy Sealer (epoxy coat) however I was a little hesitant due to the amount and importance of the prep work to make sure it adheres to the floor, even a small spot that isn't etched correctly or has some oil or other contaminate can cause the epoxy not to stick. I think the end result if done properly is pretty awesome and provides the best protection, but it also carries some significant risks.
I came across a pretty good deal on the tile systems (Similar to RaceDeck) at www.bigfloors.com I used their floor designer and came up with something I liked so I went ahead and ordered it. Went with the GarageDeck style floor. I placed my order on a Monday morning and received the product Friday of the same week.
The tiles ship assembled into 2x2 squares and it just so happend my design called for a majority of the floor to be done with 2x2 sections, so this reduced the amount of time I had to spend pulling tiles apart and snapping them in. All in all it took me about an hour and a half to sweep the garage out and lay all the tiles down. I still have a row along the right wall that needs to be cut and installed. You can cut the tiles with a table saw or scroll saw is what I've been told, so I'll post my experiences with that when I get there.
Next projects will be installing additional lighting, possibly some more electrical outlets, and some storage for things like brooms, hoses, ramps, etc.
