Rock Falls this Sat, the 11th

Anyone interested in hitting up Rock Falls for some 1/4 mile action? There are some cars headed there I want to see (John, one of the owners of LSE, and his Galant) and may run the Miata to see how slow I am.

I ended up going to Rock Falls today and witnessed the Galant dust a SRT8 Charger. The owner of the Charger parked next to me and was astonished that he ran over 111 MPH and got his doors blown off by such a sleeper.

I hadn't been to Rock Falls for 15 years when I ran a '72 SS454 El Camino with a Muncie 4-speed and 4.11's. That car ran 13.99 @ 100MPH. So I was very pleased with my 13.86 ET. Although, I was a little disappointed with the 96 MPH speed. The MS6 is not easy to drive, especially when you can't hear the engine whatsoever while running with such high horsepower cars. Check out the guy's time next to me.

I didn't see any other Mazdas while I was there. However, there were a few Evos and this awesome Toyota Corolla. :)

The Galant must of been a White Galant VR4, lol, yeah, that car made it's first passes this weekend and from what I read thus far best pass was 10.06 @ 140 something. lol, hauling ass for first passes fresh out the gate.

What were your shift points? I ran a 13.4@104mph with a 1.8 60' but it's amazing to see how much your car dies at the top end (obviously where you need it for 1/4 mi racing).

Apples to oranges comparison, as I was fully bolted, but you can really tell the differences a few more mods make.

If you weren't shifting around 5,700rpm I'd bet you'd knock off a better time at a higher speed.

edit: Your Hypertech opens up the throttle plate after 5,500 rpm right? So your power shouldn't tail after that if it's open. Hrmm....

No question my driving needs improvement. I was shifting at 6000 which is too late. I'm also running stock-sized tires. I had to shift into 5th gear just prior to reaching the traps. It think taller tires would allow me to stay in 4th. I was very happy with the launch, though.

Ohhh...yeah you can stay in 4th and just max it out. You definitely had a solid 60'.
I was hitting 13.4-13.5's all day and it was my first time ever, in any car, at the strip.
I wish I would've gone back before I sold the car - I really think I could've cranked out a high 12 with the mani and wicked aggressive tune I had on it.

Have you dyno'd yet on your current set-up? Interested at all if MNMazda does a fall dyno day at MAP?
