So...the DISI MZR can make power - with some serious help.

I'm impatiently awaiting dyno graphs and an update on this, but the word is out on one serious build that has finally put the DISI MZR into the high hp turbo-4 scene. There's been a handful of 400whp - mid 400whp builds that are really just awaiting either built blocks or a turbo that can handle higher numbers. Some have had head lift issues, most have had injector seals issues, and all have had slow builds that are a PITA.

So, dude on MSF kinda comes out of the woodwork. He finishes a build with his PTE 5557 - CP pistons/Pauter rods, 44mm ext gate, FMIC, bolt ons, CP-e SB tuned with flashes, blah blah. As far as I know he's on stock fueling (minus internals on the cam-driven pump) and makes around low 4xx whp.

PTP comes in strokin' his knob one day saying he doubts this platform can make 600whp. Yes 600whp (on a dynojet). Said dude says yeah it can, just needs a proper turbo. Shens ensue, PTP ends up buying a T3 PTE 6262 .82a/r for the guy under the condition if the car doesn't make 600whp in multiple dyno runs he'll get a refund on it. Well, time passes, and the turbo is mysteriously stolen. I'm paraphrasing the shit out of this by the way.

So, moving to today. Guy finishes build with a new turbo (I'm assuming the same turbo but at this time I can't confirm). Added a few other things like a ported intake mani, a bottle, etc. and threw it on the rollers. He made 573whp @ 35psi with the help of a 50 shot and meth. I do not have tq. numbers at the moment.

This, as some of you may know, is incredible news for your platform, along with DI engines in general. The big debate was the fueling window. With DI the injectors have about half the time to spray gas into the cylinders as compared to PI. Along with the ECU tuning, and countless other battles, it seems the light in this tunnel is indeed on and shining brightly.

I'm awaiting the graph and will obviously post it ASAP. I'm assuming this guy's not done either, and neither are a few more builds that are still in the works. Stay tuned!

I guess I don't understand why everyone thinks the car sucks because it can't (or hasnt) easily made more than 350-400whp, its a compact FWD 4cyl car....400whp is silly enough but 500-600....sorry does not compute in this car. All that said it's cool to see some people making progress, even if they are cheating a bit imo (the bottle).

I knew it. People didn't believe it, but I knew it. It was fuel, and it was a matter of cracking DI.

Agreed Picklz, it's all dick waving past 400hp in a FWD platform, but hopefully this will trickle down and help make it safer/cheaper for those of us shooting for the mid 300s. Thanks much for this info! There is so much garbage at those others sites these days that it makes it tough to find useful info like this.

Couldn't agree more. All the hating on the DISI platform seems to come from a bunch of dyno queens.

Also, for the purposes of a high-hp DI build, meth is kind of cheating too if you want to get into it... since you're basically dumping fuel into the intake.

Although I agree the 400+hp in a FWD car is absurd, I assume most of these people just go for simply highway monsters. They don't build these for auto-x, road courses, etc. Hell, most still won't break into the 11s considering their late spool. I say let the cheaters cheat for now, do what they gotta do to get this platform advanced, then work out how to eliminate the cheater systems later. Although, at 35psi I have a good feeling meth is necessary to get those IATs/BATs down, but the nitrous I'd like to see gone.

Also, I have a very good feeling he wasn't on pump gas, which I forgot to mention earlier.

why is it sooo hard to get any real information on this car...

because everything is experimental and people who don't know much about cars start rumors based off of what they think they understand. Did the car make 573whp? Yes. Will it do it again the same way he did it? No because its not safe. Is his engine 100% okay? Yes. Did anything break? No

when its time to list real shit it will get posted. Till then we are still experimenting and testing new ground. John is doing alot for this platform. Give him the space and time
And now...we speculate...

At this point, all it really proves is he can spend a shitload of $$$. Granted, it does take some talent to find that kind of power/put an engine together etc.... but that car is essentailly worthless outside of highway pulls. It's kinda like 90% of the 1000hp Supras out there, absolutely useless below 6 grand.

This is how every platform starts off... most of us just haven't been around long enough to witness the struggles and the hardship while looking for the break through. Is his step up the final answer?... probably not but it is a very good step in the right direction.

^What he said. I've been around long enough to remember when b16 swaps were cutting edge and the worlds fastest DSM was high 8's.... As i've been saying the entire time, it's a matter of development.
