So who's getting the iPhone with Verizon?

I know Jana and I are looking like a lock to pick up the iPhones. Anyone else?

Rumors abound that it's worthwhile to wait until June to see what Apple does with the next iPhone.

They announce a new one every June with at least some hardware improvements.

if i was still with verizon, i still would not get it. 30/month unlimited through sprint FTW.

Sprint = fail.

I'm glad to see that Verizon is keeping the unlimited data plan, unlike AT&T. Not being able to do data and voice at the same time sucks though. If you don't care about that and just want an iPhone on Verizon, go ahead and pick one up as soon as they come out. Personally, I'll wait until June (when my contract is up anyway) and see what the next model is like.

Like Dan said wait till mid summer when apple announces any new/upgraded iphones. That said I had an iphone on AT&T, left AT&T to come back to vzw w/ a Droid X, have no plans to get another iphone at this point, if a dual core based android phone is out this summer I may upgrade to that.

Anyone who's contract is up and is expecting their new every two or rebate after one year should call and check in, the last rep I spoke to says that goes away after Jan 16th, but yet I still see some shit for new every two advertised.

I didn't bother to read the review yet, but the Droid X only won in one category, and the iPhone took 5-6, with 1 draw. How does the Droid win in that review?

I have no experience with droid, but I've read many reviews... here is my mildly informed opinion.

The iPhone is great for someone who wants a phone that just plain works. It works out of the box and you are very unlikely to have major issues with it. The screen is AMAZING, the camera is great (reviews were saying it's got better color balance than some Point and Shoot cams), video is great for a phone... and it just works.

The droid is great for someone who wants to tinker with and control every aspect of their phone. You can do pretty much whatever you want with it. Change everything, etc etc. It's great in that aspect, but it pretty much all other categories it's a tie with the iPhone, at best.

I like the idea of being able to dump all of my Apps into an iPhone with no hassles, but I dislike the fact that they're limiting the initial iPhone offereing to 3G only. I've been able to upgrade since October and was waiting for the iPhone because I heard it was coming, but now I'm not sure if I want to just pull the trigger on a Droid of some sort or wait to see what comes out this Summer...decisions, decisions.

Well put Dano.

Having had both an android phone (rooted) and iphone 4 I agree. Thing works... and works well. Take some surprisingly decent pictures too.

The iPhone 5 is set to release in June, it is not known yet if it will be for only AT&T or for Verizon as well. I don't like that you can't do voice/data at the same time, so I'm leaning towards waiting to see if the 5 has those changes & if that comes to Verizon.

I'm torn on the DroidX, because I do like that is has HD Video and an 8 megapixel camera. For moms who like the ease of snapping a photo or video to send around, that is really nice. The iPhone 4 only has a 5 megapixel camera.

I guess we'll just see when the time comes for me...

From what I understand, the no voice and data at the same time is a limitation of Verizon's network. Certainly it's not the iPhone since I can do it on mine and even the EVO can't do it on Verizon. I suppose it's possible that Verizon will improve their network to allow it, but it's not a limitation of the hardware.

From a camera standpoint, the iPhone beat the droidx in both categories in the review AJ posted. Even if the droid X has 3 extra megapixels, in 99% of cases that makes no difference.

Maybe you two get one of each and try them out, then decide.

It's the network, yes..but there is a chip or change needed to the phone that would allow voice/data. I'll have to find the article I read.

In the points Dan makes about the actually phone and use, iPhone seems the logical choice. The Droid comes off seeming to have some extras I'd like, but as a phone first, the more I look, the more I'd just get the iPhone.

The deal with Verizon is this: They're in the middle of a major network upgrade/change. They currently use EVDO as their network technology, the same as Sprint. This is the limitation with no voice & data at the same time...EVDO just can't handle it. Verizon is working on deploying its 4G network, the technology for which is LTE. AT&T is also moving to LTE, so when both companies are done with their upgrades, they'll actually be using the same technology. It's quite likely that the next iPhone will be LTE-capable, so assuming Verizon is confident in its LTE network at that time, there's no reason that the next iPhone will work with either network.

Long story short: Apple can't just change a chip in the Verizon phone to make it do voice and data at the same time. It has to be a coordinated effort with Verizon to have the new network ready.

Well, if they put out a phone that works on Verizon's EVDO network, which doesn't support voice and data, they would certainly have to change a chip to make it compatible with their new LTE network; whenever that comes online.
That would be the coordinated effort though.
