Tom attempts to start a racing series? (This cannot end well)

I'M OFFENDED!
So- as you all know, I was fortunate enough to go to LSPR last weekend, and it was amazing. You all ALSO know I am obsessed with 24 Hours of LeMons, and well, any dirtbag car racing series. I aim to combine these two. Myself and several other repeat bad idea offenders were at BWW last night, and it was determined that LeMonsCross is a genius idea. Rallycross with beaters! WIN! Unlike most of my OTHER bad ideas, I'm going to attempt to follow through on this one. I already emailed Jay Lamm, who is head dude of LeMons, for any ideas he can give me in regards to getting this set up.

The same basic rules apply-

Car=500$. Safety is excluded from the budget. You can cheat as much as you want, but we reserve the right to confiscate your cheater car and use it for our own shenanigans as we see fit.

Safety=Rallycross rules. Hard top- helmet, whatever else is required. I can look into SCCA and other organizing bodies and see what the rules are and work from there.

Keep in mind, this is just a start, and I'll likely forget about this as soon as I go home and watch Transformers. What I want this thread for is a reasonable place to pitch around potential ideas, see who would be interested in this as a racer/spectator/helper, ideas for sponsors, etc. Any good thoughts you have regarding this are totally welcome. Pics of Dans' mom are not.

Track location.... we have a few lines on some private areas of land that may be used, otherwise we can probably bribe a farmer if we have a proper no sue contract written.

Loved the idea of drawing cars out of a hat and you get 24 hours to do what you like to it.

Think I can convince my mom that her back yard is needed for a race track? :p That's good deer hunting land! :p

I like the idea, would consider participating, would not want to develop/run the series though. I would suggest an attorney as you get closer in order to CYA from Liability concerns in organizing an event like this.

Ummmm... or we just map out 2 points on google maps way out in the country. Everyone starts at point a and who ever gets to point b wins. Every man for himself. Everything is fair game.... cutting cornfields, jumping ditches... anything goes.

I like this idea too. Also, cheating on the money should be forbidden.

Yeah, everyone brings a beater, and then you draw out of the hat to see what you get.... that was a great idea. Especially because you could attempt to sandbag it and give someone a total bomb, but you could screw yourself. We COULD enforce a 24 hours to fix it rule, and limit the money to like 200$ at the junkyard. Junkyard owner would love this, as even at 5 competitors, that 1000$ in his pocket. Cheating on money would of course be expressly forbidden, but if you DO cheat, likely your car will end up my property anyhow (since it seems that as a "spec" series I'd likely be owning the car myself) so that really doesn't do you any good. We'd have to have prize-something.....

And Matt- an attorney is a def. must have. But this is still so hideously early in the process, I'm just wondering if I can even get legs under this pig. Guess it would help to have a solid business plan, location, and sponsors, or people that would be interested in sponsoring prior to even getting that far though.

Spend up to $500 on car, pull keys from hat, spend another $200 at junkyard to fix. Race car, heck yeah.

I bet you could get whatever junkyard you're at to sponsor it. Maybe get MAP to sponsor it as well, provide discount on roll cages for cars or something like that. Maybe find a lawyer who likes rally and will "sponsor" by writing up the contracts for free.

I'm glad that this thing has interest.

Dan- MAP would likely be one of the first people I called if this went multi event, to get competitors discounts on cages. Plus I'm sure a few of them would have some ideas as to how to make this better.... and it would not hurt to have one or two on staff as judges to help identify cheaters. I'm good, but I'm not that good. Having a nearby junkyard to scavenge parts from is integral to the initial idea...
