Transmission shifts hard from 1st to 2nd...

My transmission shifts really hard from 1st to 2nd when I am in rush hour. If I am accellerating very slowly if feels as if the car just slams fom 1st to 2nd. It is ok if I am accellerating faster. Any ideas on what could cause this?

Can you give us a little background info...

1) how many miles on the car?

2) when was your last transmission service?

3) How does it shift under regular accel?

'04 mazda 3 hatch

52,000 miles

It shifts alot smoother under reg. accel. There is a slight jolt, but it only happens once and a while.

I'm not sure when the last tranny service was done. I think it was done just be fore i bought my car, but I'm not too sure.

It needs a flush and fill, but I don;t know how to do it and i'm not about to pay the dealer to do it. Was too spendy there.

Well you can have a local Goodyear, Firestone, or some other independent handle the service on the vehicle. I dont see what the recommended interval for trans service is in our All-Data program, which usually means its not recommended, but I would verify that.

Otherwise, if you are really interested in doing it yourself, I would be able to help you out sometime. Usually takes about an hour to drop the pan and replace the filter/fluid.

Manual or Auto? Mazda has a software update to fix "shift shock" in autos now.
I went to B'Ville Walser Mazda and they did it for me... shifts like warm butter now.

hmm no idea.. my car always shifts a little hard but that's due to diferent shifter bushings and such my shifter has NO play..

ohh wtf.. you need to get out of here!!!! auto! wtf! ahaha no I'm jp.. if you have warr. just go to the dealership and tell them.. it's the fix all!
