Turbo bypass switch?

I was talking to a few guys at work today about getting some boost. We started talking about the turbo and had a question. Can you wire a switch or something that will bypass the turbo? Basically turn it on or off depending on when you want to use it? That would be awesome for the daily driving and then just flip a switch when you want some fun.

What do you all think?

Sure, it's called a boost controller :D

They make manual boost controllers that can be adjusted and/or toggled remotely, but an electronic boost controller would probably be the way to go. That way you can have boost automatically regulated across the rev range and according to other parameters.

Who said anything about Boost + Automatic? I'm not adding it to my current ride. Just looking into the future at my next purchase.

While the info listed here is accurate, its not going to "turn the turbo off." Turbos are not something that will ever stop working due to their integration to the exhaust system of the car. Even with a manual boost controller set to the lowest setting, the turbo will always build wastegate spring pressure. Most wastegates are set to around 5-8psi from the factory depending on the application.

Well, that's true. If your "low" boost setting isn't low enough though, there's always the trusty right foot ;)

you could also change the spring to a lower setting so it vents off sooner so you can't build as much pressure either
