It's no more than buying an satellite radio unit. Then you still have to pay for a programming package. I also see it replacing regular radio, not disappearing.

Very soon, HD radio will be a standard tuner in aftermarket head units, just like HD tuners are standard on new TVs. I would not pay for an add-on tuner, just like I would not pay for an add on sirius tuner, but if I was in the market for a new head unit, I'd keep an eye out for an HD radio tuner.

Satellite radio just doesn't have the audio quality to be worth paying for.
