as mr matt said about the chasis the volvo one would prob be the best one out there for making it 4x4 given that it is part of ford and do share some similarities. can some one say project car???

What did I say about a volvo chassis?!? We were talking about making the Speed3 being AWD and my thoughts were with some added power and if the weight were around what it is now that would be great. Thats not really gonna happen though.

Like RoadRage said if you really wanted to make the Speed3 AWD I suspect some speed6 parts might be the easiest solution. I'm content with waiting for 3rd or 4th gear to lay the smack down.

The thing you have to worry about w/ the AWD 3 is the firewall. Due to the design of the engine, there is NO room on the exhaust side of the motor. The precise reason (other than cost) that Mazda never built it to be AWD is that the DP is right where the transfer case would be if the car was AWD. That being said, someone did build one, although I cannot remember who. All I know it was sick as hell.

Yeah it was, and custom half-shafts or something. There was a whole metric fuckton of work involved.

Just get a volvo s40 and put some mazda badges on it. Plus you'll get a nifty inline 5 turbo.

Or spend 16k on a 323 GTR, get an exhaust and a boost controller and DOMINATE ALL stock mazda's and have AWD to boot. :p.

As it turns out the website of the guy who has a few for sale is now down. Damnit.

I have a b6t sitting in my garage right now. If you come finish pulling it you can have it for $400. It has a miata bottom end, vj11/14 hybrid with ~5k miles on it and is infinitely more fun than the stock gt/x motor.

It is missing a couple things (maf, injectors, rail), but I have some other injectors I could toss in that are a bit bigger (330 versus 365) for free. I just want the motor and tranny out so I can scrap the rest.

You could also take pretty much whatever else you wanted off the car besides the flywheel/tranny. Axles, driveshaft, hubs whatever.

As to the bp, I used to have an escort GT that I gave to my sister. Then the tranny went bad, and she sold it for practically nothing. This was only a matter of months before I decided I wanted to build a festiva.
