Just bought a mazdaspeed 6 this weekend. Picked it up from the chicago area and i must say this car is amazing. Love it so far and a big upgrade from the svt contour i had. Has 67,000 miles on it and got it for $13,600. Other car i have is an 89 mustang (hence blackstang54) and currently runs 11.4's. The mazda is going to be strictly daily driver but with some occasional fun like autox and such. Im also a regular on another local forum called tcstang.com if any of you have been on there.

First question, it appears this one has the leaking transfer case unfortunately. Am i screwed here since it doesnt have a warranty anymore? can i bring it in to get the transfer case TSB done or is that only a warranty thing? How hard would it be to redo the seal myself if i had a lift available to me?

Thanks

More Foxbody pics (and details) please.

Re-doing the seal won't be tough at all, especially on a lift. T-case is easily accessible.

Welcome to the forum. Any planned mods?

Ill get pics of the mustang tonight since i dont have anything at work. The only planned mods right now is going to be an OCC first and then a new rear diff mount to replace the stocker. Power wise im going to leave it where it is till i get more comfortable with the car. Maybe a downpipe in the future and better exhaust.

And as for the t-case, anyone have instructions on how to dissemble? Is it just a cover that needs to come off or alittle bit harder like removing the drive shaft or whatever? Other then the t-case everything else on the car works great.

Welcome! I had (have?) a leaking T-Case as well, Morries has replaced the front seal twice now, hoping it's done leaking finally lol.

I don't really know how much work it is as I have a warranty so just had them do it. I think you need to pull the wheels and drive axles to get the Tcase out. I'll see if I Can find some more detailed info for you on the process. Also - highly recommend an intake - totally changes the sound and attitude of the car IMO.

Check with Morries or Walser. They might be able to do the TSB for you, since it was a well known issue.

I agree you should do it if you're planning on hooning the car a bit. I think I'm the only MS6 that's had it done here, and uh...definitely skip the 6'er and go straight to keg for that install.

Not a bad idea to fix the t-case at the same time since half the shit will already be out of your way.

That seems a little odd that they would say that. I was almost positive a leaky diff was a TSB for everyone.

I emailed the service writer that responded to my email and hes looking into it i guess. Sent him my VIN and information but havent heard back yet. He said a TSB is just a bulletin and not a warranty. So a bulletin is "yeah, we know its an issue, pay us to fix mazda's mistake"?

Yeah, getting a TSB done like that outside of warranty is pretty unlikely. It's a common problem but not something Mazda deemed recall worthy. I'm hoping mine is finally fixed, if it goes again I'm betting the bearing or something is bad causing it to eat seals *shrug* Hopefully your fix goes better than mine has. I'll see if I can find the T-Case service info in the service manual for ya tonight if i have time. And awesome on the intake.

tsb=technical service bulletin. so its something the dealership will fix, just not for free when you're out of warranty.

Thanks for trying to find the info. Im dug around other forums but its just people stating the problem and having the deal do it (under warranty). Nothing yet on a procedure or how-to. I dont think it should be that bad.
