LMAO that's awesome. Back in the day I had a Team Associated buggy that I tortured, it was quite fun.

Well, budget wise, you're probably best with what the vast majority of us have purchased, the venerable Tamiya TT01. Available in kit form, or in a full RTR setup. To save yourself some trouble, i'd probably just get the d-spec RTR kit. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXPW1&P=FR

250$ gets you everything you need other than a battery and a charger. Batteries are about 20$ each, online, and chargers, 40$ if that online. Can probably find a charger used, i'd not do used batteries. As far as the body... I have seen an NB body before, the only problem is, it's designed specifically for the HPI Cup chassis, which is a little smaller than traditional 10th scale (often referred to as True 10) That's a good chassis, just never seen it as an RTR and it's almost as much as the RTR is for the Tamiya. Tamiya used to make a 10th scale NA miata, but they've discontinued that... and the kit itself was only RWD. Pain in the ass to drift those.

You can do it with an exacto, however, "body" scissors (couple bucks at a local hobby distro) make life a lot easier. I did my last one with some kitchen shears and it works ok, just need to clean up the wheel wells, which is just wrapping some sand paper around a can or something to shape the wells better.

If you want to drift your best off getting a TT01D or TT01E D spec as they are already setup for drifting and have some nice hopups, though a regular TT01 can be converted (lock rear diff, drift tires, possible different springs/oil).

As for the Miata body I'm not really sure - i'd have to look around a bit to see what I can find.

If you look used you can usually score some good deals, otherwise the TT01D's can be had for not too terribly expensive. HobbyKing online has some really cheap LiPo batteries if you decide to go that route.

If anyone comes across some smoking deals, new or used, feel free to post them up. Body wise, I can work with that later on.

The only thing a TT01E-dpsec comes with is tires. It still has the stock tamiya springs (which are fine in the front, too soft in the back) and same shock setups available. Stiffer shock oil in the back, spring spacers to adjust preload, and you're ok.

Yo AJ- found something that might be ok for ya, depending on your mood.

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/wsh/tag/2337471173.html

Fully built TT01E. You'll still need a steering servo, a transmitter, a reciever, batteries, and a charger, and wheels and tires. But, it's BNOB, and it's the exact same kit I bought from picklz. (That's NOT the one I bought from picklz, I want that one for spares/luring people in to the hobby)

EDIT- I can read. It's already got a reciever and a steering servo in it, go buy a cheap Futaba transmitter and some batteries, (might even come with dorifto wheels and tires since the ad says he was looking to make it dorifto) and go to work.

Gentlemen, we've got straight to plaid.

/spaceballs

I learned a couple things with this one. 1st, masking tape doesnt flex as much as I'd like it too, but liquid mask is not an option with this many layers. 2nd? Tamiya paint SUCKS. I didn't get a single clean line out of any of the paints I used from them, and the Pactra stuff I used worked great. 3? Pick a body with less shit going on next time I want one in plaid. The roof was cake, the rest of it was kind of a mess. Oh well, I gots me a plaid EvoX.

The wheels are HPI Watanabe knockoffs (forget what HPI calls em) with HPI vintage drift tires.

Yeah, for the most part. It still needs window stickers and all that, but that's about what it's gonna be.

Not too shabby. I bet with a little more practice and a flatter body you could get some really sick designs going on.

Do they make a 1g xB body? lol

No, they don't. I was looking for either A- another minivan body, or B- something like a Lexus LS whatever. Best I could do was either an Escalade or a Cayenne turbo- and both woulda looked like ass inside out on my car chassis. I have most of the paint to do a 2nd one.... so sooner or later, it will happen.

The neat thing is, plaid is actually remarkably easy to do, as long as you have a brain that can reverse engineer things. Plaid is all about stripes in layers, so it's a matter of taping off what's gonna be the top stripe first, and working your way back. Hardest part is gridding it around corners so it doesn't look like you effed up the pattern and it remains square.
