Do you have actual feedback on their products or...? There is a lot of shit on the web to sift through so any info on quality is welcome.
I've got a buddy who built his AR with mostly DPMS components and it works fine, they get picked on quite a bit because they're kind of the kia of ARs.. There are better options out there depending on what you're looking for, whatever you choose just go in with both eyes open. It's easier to start with a better rifle instead of getting in to something cheap quick only to spend more in the long run trying to upgrade it. Read up on carbine length vs. mid length. Learn about barrels: weight, chrome lined, twist, (1:7 vs. 1:9 etc...) Learn about .223 chambers vs. 5.56mm chambers (.223 works in 5.56 but 5.56 doesn't necessarily work in a 5.56 due to tolerance issues) Keep in mind what you want to have on it as far as foregrip, light, optics, etc...

Try to stick with "mil-spec" components as opposed to commercial equivalents because it opens your possibilities with aftermarket support. An AR is like a car in the amount of "mods" and upgrades that can be performed, not to mention the things you can hook up to the rail. Also, consider optics as a major expense. A quality holographic or red dot sight is at least $400+. See EOTech and Aimpoint for ideas. I run an EOTech 512 and will get a G33STS 3x magnifier at some point.

I'm new to the game but find it to be a very fun hobby. There's so much out there to learn about and range time is lots of fun. I'd like to take some rifle/carbine and defensive use classes and get involved with IDPA matches, etc...

You're welcome to try my AR out anytime, just bring some .223 or 5.56 ammo!

The Ruger MkII and MkIII is excellent, I've fired probably 500 rounds through one. This is the design that got the company started back in the 50s. The 22/45 looks really nice too, you can't go wrong. Make sure you don't spend more than $300 on one because there are deals to be had.

That's what I'm doing a lot of now, looking at the same guns across places for price. Was thinking about going to Bills tonight to see what they had though. Anyone know the # of days it takes for a backgroud check on rifles and stuff yet? Trying to plan the farm trip.

You may as well go and request a permit to purchase from your local cop shop. It's a simple background check and its free, they mail you the card once you pass and then you can buy without waiting.

FYI, Bills in Robbinsdale charges $50 for a transfer in FFL and $60 for a transfer out FFL. So not bad at all, I've seen others be listed closer to $75-$100...

I have had my rueger .22 since my dad gave it to me when I was 16. Love that gun to death. Fun as hell to target shoot with and ammo isn't stupid expensive. Never have had a problem with the gun. Never jammed on me once and probably 1000 rounds have gone through the thing. I just thoroughly clean it every year.

AR-15/M4 style "assault rifle" in a .223 or .556 chamber is my next "toy" gun. Of course the wife wants hand guns, so I'll probably pick up a few 9mm's before that happens.

Also, been thinking a 22 hand gun for my might end up being a Beretta U22 Neos, nice and cheap.

get a .223/5.56 chambered ar15, then just get a 22lr bolt, then you can have both, rather than just a 22lr dedicated rifle. the 22 ar15s seem really weak to me.

The .22LR bolt carrier groups cost $200+. Along with the fact you have to sight the rifle in each time you change bcg I'd rather have a ruger 10/22 and a 5.56 ar.

Side note I plan to do some skeet shooting next year as well so a 12 gauge is in the cards too.

The rest of the plans are a .22lr for the cost effective fun, a p22 for the wife and myself to share, a 9mm, an AR, and then likely a few other options i've looked at. My goal is to be able to have some fun down in IA with the pops. He's got a solid collection as well, buit to also look at more sporting and leauges around here. Possibly find some poeple to go hunting with as well.
