Camping--July 13-15

What to people want as far as food. I'm open to buying some meat and liquor and utensils. I'm assuming we'll have hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken?

I have to work til one on friday so cant leave until after 1. But I am driving seperate because heading over to jess's town for a family reuion so if you guys dont want to wait for me thats fine. I can always catch up with jurgen or joe.

We should set a time for the flake town meet up for the caravan up to duluth...

Sounds like, unless everyone is cool with leaving later, we're probably going to do this thing in two caravans. If so, I'd say the first one should plan on being in Forest Lake around noon. How's that work for people?

Nobody answered my walkie-talkie question yet... are those things pretty universal? I mean, if I go out and pick up a cheap pair, will they work with other brands/models?

They should, most have set channels...

Sorry, I didnt even see that question. Yes, they will all talk to one another as long as they have multiple channels. After I bought my set a few years ago, I used to drive around with it on just for fun. Its amazing how many conversations you can pick up in just a few miles.

Nobody answered my walkie-talkie question yet... are those things pretty universal? I mean, if I go out and pick up a cheap pair, will they work with other brands/models?

Most radios sold nowadays are FRS radios. They will all work with each other as long as the packaging says something about FRS. The other less popular option is GMRS which technically requires a FCC license to operate.

I will be using my ham radio (Yaesu VX-5R) which has been modded to transmit on FRS frequencies

I don't know if I will be bringing wood, so if I can't or don't, I will be able to bring a couple bigger coolers.

Even if the wood is overpriced, it might be worth it to not have to haul it all the way to duluth and get your trunk all dirty. We can toast marshmallows over the cookstove if we have to... lol

So how do we want to do food? Would it be easiest to make a grocery run once we get into town, rather than trying to evenly split up food duties?

Wood - I dont mind paying a little extra to avoid the hassle of hauling.

Food - I think it would be best to run into town up there as well. Once we have everyone together we can get a better idea of what people want and collect some money. Those who dont have tents can head in while other setup?
