I'M OFFENDED!
Most radios sold nowadays are FRS radios. They will all work with each other as long as the packaging says something about FRS. The other less popular option is GMRS which technically requires a FCC license to operate.

I will be using my ham radio (Yaesu VX-5R) which has been modded to transmit on FRS frequencies :)

Jeff
Why does it not surprise me in the least that Jeff has a Ham radio, and that he's modded it?

Ok, good. Wood, paying there for it. Food, making a run while there. Let's just say to bring cash. I am thinking we will be getting rid of one of the sites as well. I think we can have three tents per site without being charged extra. I think three sites will be plenty. I will bring a couple decent size coolers and a couple little ones. We also could make a run for whatever else we need Friday evening once everyone is there.

Nice...sounds like most of it is finally coming together.

As for walkies, I would suggest we pick a channel ahead of time that we can use. I suggest something higher in the spectrum as most radios hasve 14 channels and typically the lower channels are used more. I also think either 9 or 11 is an "emergency" channel, so lets stay away from that.

Taya, it sound like the second caravan will be leaving sometime between 2 and 5 pm, depending on when Joe gets off of work.

Micah, is Padra coming along? (you probably told us earlier, but I forget)

Yeah, I just wont have a good idea of when I can leave until mid-morning or early afternoon. I am thinking I will likely be out of here at 2-3:30, but it could be as late as 4:30pm. If you all just want to leave w/o me, I dont mind. I can just fly solo and make up some time on 35.

I just dont want people to wait around for me until 4:30 if they want to get up there earlier.

Yeah Josh, there are a few stores with big parking lots, right off the interstate. I forget what they are... maybe I'll have to do some scopeage one of these days.

EDIT: What about the famous dave's? It's on the west side of 35 at the main Forest Lake exit, and you can see it from the freeway. Here's a map...

Famous Dave's will be the best spot for you all to meet up at. The other places are getting off the freeway a little too much unless you did the Holiday gas station right off of the freeway to the right. It gets to be so congested there in Forest Lake. I will plan to leave my place between 9 and 11 am then and we might be arriving the same time. It is the same mileage for me as you...150 but drive time is different since I don't get the comforts of 35 most the way. Can't wait...almost time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and we should still decide on a walkie channel for the weekend. That way if we use them everyone will know what channel to be on, whether in town or on the way to and from. I guess we can go channel 12 unless people have objections...

I've heard that channel 12 is what all of the bi-curious cheerleaders use on their roadtrips, so that sounds good to me!

Well thats why I chose it. With the high percentage of cheerleaders out there, we are bound to have some interesting conversation.
