First, think of a budget. second, think of what you want the final product to be. Then think about speakers.

What car are these going into, where are the speaker mounting holes, and what other speakers are/will be installed in the car? Just a pair of 4" 2-ways are gonna sound like shit on their own.

my 1981 rx7, the speakers are located down by pedals, no other speakers or maybe idk cause theres only 2 in the car, but im looking for a 3 way for a little better sound, and im sure almost anything would sound better than stock speakers from 81.

If the speaker opening are really 4", there is no way you're going to find a 3-way -- the speakers just aren't large enough to allow room for a midrange and tweeter.

If you're going to install an amp, a pair of Infinity Kappa 4" two-ways should work well for you:

I've always been a fan of Infinity's stuff, and while there are some that love to talk trash about them, those people are also the ones that usually buy uber-expensive, brands-you've-never-heard-of speakers.

Keep in mind that you won't get much by way of bass with anything smaller than 6.5" speakers, so for a nice, full-bodied sound, you'll want to install a subwoofer as well.

Also: 3-way speakers don't necessarily sound better than 2-ways. A good 2-way with a properly designed crossover can sound the same as, or better than, a 3-way. Also, if you have a sub, you can install a high-pass filter on your 2-ways to have them only play what the sub can't, and then you'll effectively have a 3-way system. It's much easier to properly tune and balance a system if you don't have multiple speakers overlapping in frequency range.

Looks like they have a foam surround, which in car audio is a no-no. With something at that price point, you'll probably want to try to listen to them before you buy. My guess is that the highs on those are pretty harsh, and the midrange is lacking.

Honestly, Infinity's never done me wrong. I haven't listened to Focals, but I know there are a lot of people who swear by them. Whether they're worth the extra $$$ is up to you.

Focals are AMAZING, but really, if you plan on only upgrading one set of speakers in your car, the Infinity speakers will have a more balanced sound.

I'm not sure if the Focals would fit. They might be too deep. They have a huge magnet on them. They sound amazing.

Depending on how install savvy you are, you could go w/ a pair of separates & mount the tweeter's under the dash lip in the corners. The soumd & imaging would be better than firing it into your ankles.
